Oh my GOD, I am never getting plastic surgery on my face. I've watched a million surgery shows, but it doesn't compare to real life at all. I just picked up a friend who had a brow lift to get rid of the mean lines between her eyes. She looks like she got run over by a semi 15 times. This guy is one of the best surgeons in Chicago, and they let her go while she was still so sedated and bleeding -- "standard operating procedure," they tell me. I basically had to carry her to my car. Horrendous. So horrendous.

Take some popcorn:

Top Chef's Richard Blais Brings Frozen Popcornsicles to NYC
Fri Jul 11, 2008

NEW YORK, July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- What do you get when you combine a
national television personality, mounds of freshly popped Garrett® Popcorn,
and gallons of fogging liquid nitrogen? ... A FROZEN POPCORNSICLE!
Richard Blais, best known as one of the three finalists on Bravo's Top
Chef: Chicago has combined delicious Garrett Popcorn with his own brand of
quirky kitchen science to create an interactive summertime snack experience.
And, anyone who visits Garrett Popcorn Shops' New York City Flagship Store
(560 Fifth Avenue) during the week of July 14 will be given the chance to try
one for free.
"Popcorn is about eating something tasty and having a great time," said
Scott Schroeder, executive vice president and CFO of Garrett Popcorn Shops.
"Richard has developed a recipe that is fun to eat, a great sweet treat and
most notably, freezing cold -- which makes it perfect for New York in July."
To create Frozen Popcornsicles, Blais handcrafts balls of Garrett
Popcorn's famed CheeseCorn® and CaramelCrisp™ Mix, using the company's
homemade caramel. The popcorn balls are then placed on a popsicle stick and
deep frozen in a bath of liquid nitrogen, which produces an icy-cold fog that
billows from your mouth as you eat it.
"Freezing the Garrett Popcorn in liquid nitrogen is almost like
deep-frying -- the difference is that we are working with extremely cold
temperatures, as opposed to extremely hot temperatures," said Blais. "This
intensifies the unique cheese and caramel flavor of the popcorn and creates a
one-of-a-kind, subzero feeling in the mouth."
Richard Blais will be sampling Frozen Popcornsicles, free-of-charge, at
Garrett Popcorn Shops' Flagship Fifth Avenue Store, located at 560 Fifth
Avenue (at 46th Street), on Tuesday, July 15, Wednesday, July 16, and
Thursday, July 17, from 11:30am until 2:30pm EDT.

this was going on while I was in New York, but the crowds were to absurd to even bother with going and checking this out. seriously, it was like a huge deal to many-a-people out there.

i wound up eating at Good Burger instead. i have no regrets.

i think i just laughed for 20 minutes at the new ice cream place on milwaukee called icream. but then i looked it up online:

So what, exactly, does "customizable ice cream" mean? Well, instead of choosing from pre-made selections in a dairy cooler, you actually get to create your own product. First select your base (such as reduced-fat or soymilk), then choose a sweetener (such as liquid sugar or honey), then move on to add-ins and flavors--heck, you can even add colors if you want. Mix-masters will whip up your product in a commercial mixer with liquid nitrogen to create the on-the-spot ice cream. The result has a slightly firmer texture than typical soft-serve. As for the other offerings: fro-yo has a fat-free or non-fat yogurt base; sorbets are made with Naked Juice products; and the hot pudding is steamed to order.

i am now jsut waiting for my roommate to change so we can go.

holycrrrap i want.

link? address?...please?

I had a friend who suffered from a brief bout of aphasia after a car accident. He could barely speak (mostly just little noises)--so he wrote shit down. Then one day he started talking like normal. Literally over night.

Incidentally, I'm all about an abnormal gait.

the good thing though was that the whole place was reminiscent of willy wonka, right down to the workers basically looking like oompa loompas.

my ice cream was slightly better than beth's, but still with a disappointing sparsity of taste.

SAME HERE!!!

But at least being in the suburbs meant I could play croquet for the first time tonight in two years. I came in second out of eight in one of the most grueling endurance matches of croquet ever seen. It means I have lost control and possession of our croquet championship.....
