there is this free wine tasting from 10am-9pm on the first floor of my building. im thinking about going during lunch, but i really dont want to leave and risk missing anything good that might be played on 103.5 KISSFM today.

Is this the kind of wine tasting where you're supposed to spit the wine out, or the kind where you're supposed to get discreetly buzzed?

Makes a difference.

I really enjoy rolling up the sleeves of my dress shirts.

oh, for sure... i do a double roll, never a triple roll. sometimes the single roll works, depends on the shirt.

The triple roll is usually too much. At the Olive Garden, they would make us do the triple roll and it pissed me off.

I always roll at least once. Never more than two rolls on a dress shirt. Unless, and this is the only exception, it's a very hot day and you've stopped to help a young lady change a flat tire.

I don't think I've ever agreed with anything more.

how is it that people are jogging in these conditions? not only is it cold but the sidewalks and streets are ice rinks.

Extreme weather is rarely a detriment to the persistence of lunacy. In fact, it's usually a stimulant and facilitator.

i almost ran into a jogger this morning as i was turning a corner walking to the bus at like 630. i feel as though it would have been worth falling on the ground had we actually knocked into each other so i could call him crazy.

Have you ever had your iTunes on shuffle and when a song finishes, it continues with the song directly underneath it? You then question if the shuffle function is actually working, so you hit the next button, and it goes to a completely different artist. Strange times.

You then question...the shuffle function...

Dunno if this has happened before - maybe, maybe not. But what I do notice every few weeks is that a run of tracks will play that can't be random. A set like, say, The Beat, Operation Ivy, Toots & Fishbone will play and I can't help but think some egghead computer person played with the iPods digital innards to do shit like that sometimes. There's no way that's random. It must be part of string theory.

I get that same thing. Sometimes the flow is so perfect on shuffle that it can't be random. But then sometimes I'll get This Mortal Coil or something when I'm running, disproving everything.

Alan, I think you're on to something. It all depends on the song you begin with. From there, a lot of the same styles and genres continue to appear one after the other. Meet me in the lab. We have some experiments to attempt.

One time, while using shuffle, it went from a Stones song to a mash-up of that stones instrumental. Freaked me out.

There's ghosts in the machines. I've always been suspect of computers - loathe them, in fact. I won't have one in my home. And people who deal with them? Computers, I mean? I don't trust them, either. Over a quick few years this has come to include car mechanics, accountants, doctors and even chimney sweeps. Fuck 'em all. Bring back Ned Lud.

I don't mind change - just change it back to the way it as.

I am listening to my ipod, in alphabetical order. Last Tuesday, I began songs that start with "The". Today, I am up to "The Same Deep Water As You" by the Cure.

There's an easy solution to these shuffle quandries:

STOP LISTENING TO ITUNES ON RANDOM SHUFFLE AND ACTUALLY PUT ON AN ALBUM OF YOUR CHOOSING, PREFERABLY ON VINYL!!!

Sorry about the AllCaps Vivian rant, but I fucking HATE iTunes shuffle. Surest sign of a lame party- some choad puts on his iTunes on random. I was at an Xmas party last week where I heard a deep Eurthymics album track followed by, I shit you not, Pig Destroyer. I love Eurythmics and Pig Destroyer, but they're not exactly chocolate and peanut butter, if you know what I mean.

In line with your ska mix, Alan, my sugggestion is that all music listeners be a SELECTER

Mr Vivian, it is rather impractical to suggest someone listen to music on vinyl, while they are at work.
Unless they work in a record store.

Fair enough. I support your alphabetical project, BTW. Just not the bleepin' randomizer.
