Show #70: 03.30.07
This week Jim and Greg enter into the psychedelic world of Elephant Six. This musical collective had humble beginnings in a small town in rural Lousiana, but has gone on to produce some of the most innovative pop and rock music ever. Jim and Greg will highlight some of their favorite songs from bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control, and talk with Elephant Six founder and Apples in Stereo front man Robert Schneider.

somebody up some E6 bands!!!!
"Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour."

Wow, I don't think I've ever heard of The Minders. But yeah, what championkid said. I remember that one issue of Magnet, where they asked Mangum what songs he wished he'd written, and he said loads of E6 songs. 'Gay Bar' and stuff.

lol.

Really excited for this. Elephant 6 doesn't seem to get the credit they deserve. Their impact on modern indie music is massive.

The first Of Montreal album "Cherry Peel" which is one of my favorites hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/fjm0m6 I can up Olivia Tremor Control "Dusk at Cubist Castle" if anyone is interested. here it is hxxp://www.sendspace.com/delete/9uwtvf/daovo And to bring it all together, here is Kevin Barnes(from Of Montreal) covering an Olivia Tremor Control's song, "Green Typewriter Suite" from "Dusk at Cubist Castle. hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?f2nmmmzj2zj
I personally love everything the guy puts out. He could put out a 8LP, import only album of blank tracks and have a picture of my mom naked on the cover and I would still buy it and love it. That is how much I believe in that dude -Random guy talking about Richard James

listened to and liked, it has some of the fun raw quality that made me really like the first of Montreal cd
