Stylus's Top 50

Two days and 20 songs in. Yesterday was pretty good, but today has some absolute clunkers. "I'm Too Sexy"? "Ride the Train"? Donna Fucking Lewis? Dr. Bill, if yer around, please explain why on Earth you'd vote for that? It's really sad when you try to rip of Wilson Phillips and fail. And least "Popular" is on there.

Yeah, I read the blurb for "Ride the Train." Utterly confusing. Lead me to give it another shot just now. Nope, still sucks.

wtf "I Love You Always Forever" is one of the best songs ever Loving "C'mon Ride It" and calling "I'm Too Sexy" a joke is totally ridiculous Love and Rockets were definitely a one-hit wonder, unless you count a bunch of exceedingly minor MR hits weirdos

"I'm Too Sexy" is definitely one of the cleverest #1 hits of the 90s. Just because a whole bunch of lame people missed the point doesn't change shit. Not exactly the same thing that can be said about a song with the chorus "c'mon ride the train / and ride it"

that said, I didn't vote for either and would've been perfectly happy if both missed. One of our writers was really pissed off that I accidentally forgot to put RuPaul's "Supermodel" on the master list. He had a point.

Maybe it was a case like the Verve, where L&R had only the one popular song in the US while they did decently everywhere else. Both "Ball of Confusion" and "Yin and Yang the Flowerpot Man" got regular airplay in Canada in the years before before "So Alive" broke.

Yeah, a lot of people thought it was this big, anthemic, dumb song. But if you listen to the words, it's really about the tragic effects of the Vietnam War.
"LETS GET SOME FUCKING ENERGY UP IN THIS BITCH MOTHERFUCKERS! You are not resigned to a fate of slow, painful death. The world is not as Radiohead and Portishead see it. "Oh the suffering! Oh the suffering, I feel the weight of the world and all it's pain" FUCK YOU......Be the grizzly, tear some shit up, rather than tearing yourself up." -- Montana, 12/21/08
