Pennies are a nuisance. Round .1 and .2 down and 3. and .4 up. It actually costs more than a penny to make a penny. Any reason we still make them?

for coin collectors. that rounding solution has apparently been tested and people hate figuring it out. the loss of manufacturing a penny is offset by the low costs of the other coins.

i hate pennies, myself and look forward to the day when they are no longer with us. seriously, whenever i get them, now, i leave them on counters for other customers to use or pocket or eat or whatever. pennies are a joke.

I like to keep a nice pile of them handy in my car because they are great to throw at pedestrians that might give me a funny look or are just plain old funny looking, themselves.

How many years did the British kept the Ha'Penny after things stopped costing a Half Penny? Part of the reason we still have the penny is retailers don't want to lose the money they'd make from having a price break between .95 & 1.00, i.e., if something costs $1.97 you make an extra .02 per piece and people still think you're stuff is cheaper than if it cost $2.00.

Nothing overwhelming persuasive, but here are some of the argument offered in favor of keeping the penny. According to several sources (including this), the cost of minting nickels is also a problem.

I'll carry pennies around and all, but if one falls on the ground, screw it. I'm not bending over for one fucking cent.

A few weeks ago on the radio, I heard someone say that in a few years, pennys would automatically be worth 5 cents instead of 1. Later on I realized that I'd been punk'd.

I hate them and usually throw them away. I do have a coffee cup full of them at home and was thinking of putting them in a zip lock and giving them to a homeless guy.
