I think "See/Saw" is my favorite of the four right now, but they're all on pretty even footing. Jay is the man.

i think the back sides of both releases have been much better than the front. screaming hand may be my favorite song of the year.

I've felt like the only person who likes "Screaming Hand" the best of all four. But now I know I'm not alone. For this, I thank you. Beyond that, how could you not LOVE this song? Perfect mix of ass-kicking and tear-jerking. Treads familiar growing-into-your-destiny ground, but in a complete and utterly Reatarded setting. That melody! That guitar line that shows up toward the end! Anyway:

(1. Always Wanting More)
2. Screaming Hand
3. Ugly Death
4. See/Saw
5. Painted Shut
make it three yards, motherfucker, and we'll have an automobile race

love the narrative to screaming hand... and the fact that he references mud pies.

I'll agree that the end of "Screaming Hand" is one of the best bits in the Reatard catalog.

'An Ugly Death' might have the catchiest Jay chorus to date. I'm really curious how the song would transcend live without that nice little keyboard part in there. It's really been interesting watching his transformation from thrashpunk player to writing more crafted songs that show a pop sensibility.
I've got dials and knobs soft to the touch

Simakos just set me up with all the Reatard tunes! The tune another person makes me realize what I should have known from the beginning. Jay Reatard is likely influenced by the Cars and his voice bears resemblance to Rick Okasik.

Thanks Simakos: these are infinitely enjoyable.

Greg Demirdjian and Jay Reatard aren't entirely dissimilar, are they? It's more obvious on the singles.

it's actually right here

http://www.matadorre...atablog/?p=1401
"Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour."
