fuck it, i'm putting the Matador comp in my AOTY list... i'm not making a compilation list.

Paul is just going to have to deal with it.

Bit of a waste of time, he'll just ignore it.
Nice bowl of Crunchy Nut you got here, pretty expensive as I recall.

Yeah, I miss the early days of the Jay Reatard thing. Can't go to his shows anymore w/o getting shoved around by a bunch of kids and pitchfork readers.

the early days? you mean like 9 months ago?

yeah, i'm fine with that. i like to make one list, for my own records and also like to send it out to friends as a xmas greeting every year and i'm too lazy to make multiple lists.

Wasn't he just on the same stage as these guys a short 5 months ago? I don't think they played together, but man..he's a bit late on the draw here.

Maybe he is Montana.

Listening to the new demo right now. This stuff is amazing. Cannot wait for the new record. Over the last few days, I've come to realize how much of a brilliant songwriter and studio technician Jay Reatard really is. The gauzy production haze he lays over most of his tracks is an amazing ruse.

And how 'bout that whole outro bit? I could listen to hours of that.

Or the way the guitar rushes in like a china shop bull in the chorus?

"Over the last few days"?

What were you thinking before?

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

Well, when I hear a JR song I think of the, well, immediate things: the hooks, the "garage" sound, the energy. I've obviously realized before how great of a songwriter and producer he is, but I now hear those things primarily. I just think he has a great gig going where he can be all grimy punk rock and shit while simultaneously immersing himself in Beatlesesque craft. I heard mostly the former before, now I mostly hear the latter.

listened to blood visions on shuffle. fucking thing kills in every possible order.
"Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour."

They spelled Gaye Blades wrong. Also... seriously? The Gaye Blades? They're like, the third most popular Black Lips side-project.
