I have this album: Roky Erickson and The Aliens The Evil One. Kind of reminds of a band I've been in for about a decade. I like it. It's bizarre.

This fucking guy has a real bizarre bio:

http://en.wikipedia....i/Roky_Erickson

He gives new meaning to gimme gimme shock treatments, eh?

Regardless, I like the guy, and I hear he's gonna be coming to Joe's Sports Bar, but I can't find it on their web site calendar.

Does anybody know about this guy? If so, what's his best work?

Roky is incredible. His stuff with the 13th Floor Elevators is very cool, I believe there's an album up in 1966 trout. <br> Live show is absolutely worthwhile. He's an incredible guitarist. "Two Headed Dog" is an awesome song. <br> Here's the Trailer for the new movie about Roky: <br> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.c...></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.c.../v/sVFLqzJB6qw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <br> Here's a clip form 2007's Ice Cream Social in Austin: <br> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.c...></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.c.../v/DZ3-dXP1dT8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <br> Here's a youtube clip from 1992 with Two HEaded Dog and Starry Eyes: <br> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.c...></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.c.../v/urAB7PKRv5g" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Are you going to Joe's? I need a reader. I really want to see Roky there and get his autograph. EDIT: Thanks for the vids.

Yeah, Roky is the shit. Saw the documentary when it played at the Siskel Center in Chicago last year.

Joe's? That don't make a lick of sense. I do know for certain he's gonna be at Lollapalooza this summer (and his performance last summer at Intonation backed up his legend).

Is that clip of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators on American Bandstand in the mid-sixties still on Youtube? (Or was it ever?)

Dude who told me about is a music nut. I trust him, but don't quote me. I could not find it on their site.

Even if he's right, it just seems a little unlikely. Erickson has a bit of a resurgence going on now; I'm sure that Double Door, Metro, or the Empty Bottle would pay a king's ransom to get him to grace their stages. No sense in having him play at a sports bar that sometimes thinks it's Bob's Country Bunker.

Sixth Annual Ponderosa Stomp, May 2nd, 2007 - New Orleans. Celebrating the Real Heroes of Rock and Roll. Find out more at: http://www.ponderosastomp.com/

as listed on his website and jambase.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Roky play a smaller venue, as he might be a little more comfortable with the smaller crowds. I have seen him play 3-4 times, every time its been great. Saw him play on the same night as Spoon one time, different venues and his show was free, nonetheless he blew their show off the stage.

On a side note, a good friend who works for Gibson, actually gave Roky his guitar and amp (Roky thought they were lending them to him for awhile but it was a gift) and was the first person to play music with him in like 10-11 years. Roky's brother even let him know how jealous he was of that.

Man. Seeing a legend is not your thing? I'd think any music fan would go just for that factor alone.

Worth it not only because you get to see a legend, but because he puts on an extraordinary show. Not only that but you're catching him in a tight venue and I bet it won't be too pricey.

I just don't really like his music all that much.

There are a couple Elevators songs I like, but not too many.

I hope it's true, but that date looks dubious. I think I saw that he is playing Lollapalooza in July so it doesn't make sense he'd be playing a show here the month before just two days before he's scheduled to play in Sweden-- but who knows? maybe he's flying direct from Chicago to Stockholm and wanted to play a warm-up gig.. pollstar makes mistakes sometimes, but sometimes they get the scoop. Edit: Also, just checked Joe's web site and they list 2 completely different gigs booked for june 16, the date pollstar lists.

Roky Erickson is one of my favorite songwriters ever. His show last year was the single greatest performance I've seen. I'll be going to Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison...maybe indianapolis? If he tours.

Because the level of my appreciation of his music has nothing to do with the level of my appreciation of how weird it is that he is supposed to be playing at Joe's.

I only commented because I was asked why I didn't want to go to the show.

Dude the Evil One kicks ass! I seriously love that album. It's a weird amalgam of bayou rock and horror movie lyrics. Anyone think Glenn Danzig ripped off Roky's lyrical schtick back then? It's quite possible! Pretty much the only post Elevators release that ever did anything for me. The Sympathy For the Record Industry version is a double disc-er with some interviews with him at the time, interspersed with some great live versions of the songs (some of which rock harder than the studio polished ones). fun fact: record is (over)produced by CCR native Stu Cooke. His other post Elevators releases are spottier. One is him recording with a tape recorder in the asylum. Not very good if you ask me. The other one is a kind of folk/country record with a few decent tunes on it, but a lot of filler.

So this notoriously unstable, fairly fragile dude, is supposed to be at fucking Joe's one night and playing a festival in Sweden like 48 hours later? Yeah...me thinks something isn't right with this picture.
