what's their best album? i'm listening ot "perfect from now on" and it's pretty good. it rocks, but you can also sort of space out to it, if you don't play it too loud.

I've listened to Perfect From Now On a few times. I like a few parts of the first two tracks, but the most part, the album bores the fucking hell out of me.

I almost sort of like a few songs that I've heard off of Secret and Ancient Melodies, though.

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

Damn, Paves, first REM and now BTS. Maybe your tummy is trying to tell you you should avoid college radio staples.

But in all seriousness, listen to Track 5, "Velvet Waltz" five times and then tell me the fucking hell is still bored out of you. All that looping, swirling mellotron, cascading guitar. Great record, and that song is the pinnacle for me, really.

Hey- thread reminds me that last year, I was in this poster shop and they were playing some album with Martsch singing what I think were all cover tunes. Anyone know what this thing/ project is?

Perfect From Now On is my favorite, followed by There's Nothing Wrong With Love.

PFNO is just it's own thing altogether, an epic, incredible album. It goes with so many college memories for me, as does TNWWL.

Ultimate Alernative Wavers is damn good too. The thing about BTS is that all three of these albums sound completely different, but still sound like Built To Spill - probably because of Doug Martsch's super kick-ass guitar playing and vocals.

No one else like them.

followed ever so closely by There's Nothing Wrong With Love and then PFNO (as great as it is, it's my 3rd fave)

KILAS is top 10 of the 90's for me, it's as close as records get to being perfect all the way through.

one thing for sure is that their run of: There's Nothing Wrong With Love----> Perfect From now On ----> Keep it Like a Secret was unbelievable. Each album has its own purpose, and my favortie of these three changes with the weather.

if the production was better on TNWWL it'd be above KILAS for me i think. KILAS is much more cohesive though. the only misstep on PFNO for me is Out of Site, otherwise it's almost as perfect as KILAS

aye
But among the jackals, the panthers, the bitch hounds, The apes, the scorpions, the vultures, the serpents, The yelping, howling, growling, crawling monsters, In the filthy menagerie of our vices, There is one more ugly, more wicked, more filthy! Although he makes neither great gestures nor great cries, He would willingly make of the earth a shambles And, in a yawn, swallow the world; He is Ennui! — His eye watery as though with tears, He dreams of scaffolds as he smokes his hookah pipe. You know him reader, that refined monster, — Hypocritish reader, — my fellow, — my brother!

perfect from now on is probably my favorite album by them, but keep it like a secret is their best. i think i like PFNO a tad more because its a bit weirder, but depending on the day i could easily say KILAS is my favorite album. TNWWL, AMOTF and YIR are also very good records, but their late 90s stuff is their best. Both are 100% essential albums but if you need to pick just one, get KILAS also their live album is totally worth owning.

And yet no one mentions the lo-fi beauty of The Normal Years...

Joyride is perhaps the one song of any band ever in the history of music and life in general containing the best advice people could ever receive:

Love is just a joyride / drink a lot of beer and climb inside / lay your foot down on the gas / leave it there until you crash

Damned if everyone doesn't learn that at least once in life. :D

one of the few proponents of There's Nothing Wrong With Love over everything. I don't even like their other albums. They're a lot better at nice, simple rock songs than 12+ minute guitar jams or whatever they do on everything post -TNWWL. "Stab" is about as complex as I approve of them getting; song rules though.
Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I definitely like the line, but I learned that when I was 17 and decided it was a shit lesson when I turned 21 or so. That said, your avatar kinda looks like my friend James, who is a total rockstar, which means you might be a total rockstar. In that case, this is a sage lesson, a lesson ponderous with wisdom, a lesson that'll keep your dick hard for a lifetime.

Oh yeah: I LIKE Perfect from now on. the most, and definitely think it's their best. It's got the widest scope and most potential for greatness, but Keep It Like a Secret is probably the easiest album of theirs to pull the trigger on and say, yeah, this is the best. So damn approachable while keeping all of its integrity. As for You in Reverse, I can't listen to it without hearing, "Who Is Mike Jones?!?!?" but that first track is a fucking beast.
make it three yards, motherfucker, and we'll have an automobile race
