Just finished seeing this movie with my wife and little son, and I will be the first to say that a clear contender for picture of the year starts here. This is a marvelous and touching movie which shows the genius of Brad Bird (this is as good as The Incredibles). There is one bit of animation that is the best bit of filmmaking that I've seen in a long damn time (for those who have seen it, it's when the critic tastes the food and has a mini-flashback). See this movie. It's wonderful.

Blows away everything else I've seen this summer. staggering artistic achievement. Perhaps it goes without saying that it's stunningly beautiful to watch the entire time. Every single dish of food that they show looks positively mouth-watering. Aside from that, the direction is just stunning. Sweeping panoramas of paris and quick-cut action scenes alike. Brad Bird (directed Incredibles AND Iron Giant and now THIS!) is a jaw-droppingly talented individual. I wasn't 100% sold on the story 100% of the time, but it doesn't take too long to win you over with creativity and unpredictability. Not sure where it ranks on the Pixar spectrum... but really as good as (or significantly better than) any animated movie I've seen recently. Amen on the flashback scene. I think i actually got chills.

Couldn't agree more with you two. Saw it tonight and loved every minute of it. The story was a bit predictable at the end there, but hey with a Disney-Pixar moive you've gotta expect that. The crowd was really into it cheering a long and stuff and went crazy during the critic's flash. Beautiful film all around.

Saw it last night, might be Pixar's greatest achievement yet. Stunning visuals in every minute of the movie, made me think of the classic beautiful Disney movies from days gone by, especially Beauty and the Beast a few times. My Aunt hated it, so I was fuming about that quite a bit. But she saw Evan Almighty on Tuesday and claims its one of the best films ever, so yea.....

Right now my Pixar rankings are as such (and I'm thinking Ratatouille may move even farther up upon second viewing): Toy Story Finding Nemo Ratatouille Monster's Inc. The Incredibles Toy Story 2 Cars A Bug's Life Also, thinking I'd missed something, I decided to look up Brad Bird. According to IMDB, he's only done 3 movies (all of which were great, I'll give you that), which can't possibly be enough to qualify him as the best fo the last 10 years.

Saw it today with my kids and of course loved it. And can I just say, it's a minor reason, maybe reason # 427 of 500 why this is a very good movie, but there was not one one poop or burp joke. It's a movie about rats and food, and not one character 1)farted, 2)shit, 3)threw up, or 4)picked a booger. It took about 2 minutes before Donkey was pulling Shrek's finger in Shrek 3. Not saying those things can't be funny (I just did all 4 while typing this), but this is a pretty sophisticated animated film. Starring rats!

I'm glad to read all the accolades. Prior to this I'd decided on the basis of the two billboards I've seen, that I would hate the movie.

Hardly has the marketing appeal of straightforward movies called "cars", "toy story", or "a bug's life". there were several working titles for this, like 'rats!' and 'a rats tail' (gross). I'm glad that they made almost no effort to dumb down this masterpiece for mass consumption. But I hope they don't pay for it in the box office.

Haven't seen Cars. I'll get around to it. Really, though, the first 6 movies on that list are classics. Monsters Inc. is the only one I haven't really been crazy about.
