If you like shoegaze, darkwave, metalgaze, etc, or just have a weakness for beautiful music, I highly, highly, highly recommend you check this one out. It's a French one-man bad that started out as a black metal project (wait, don't go scurrying away just yet!), but he's totally gone the MBV/Slowdive/Jesu route, with layered guitars and sumptuous vocal melodies. It's absolutely gorgeous, and could very well be my top pick for 2007 before the year's over.

The album is out in a couple weeks, and can be ordered for supercheap at www.profoundlorerecords.com. So please, give this a listen and buy the record. I know there are tons of folks here who will love this.

I'll judge a book by its cover on this one and check it out. That sure is a pretty cover.
I don't even get your t-shirts pun.

The cover really goes with the music. Innocence and pastoral images. Lyrics are all in French, and are all of the looking-at-sparkling-sunlight-through-trees variety. Quite lovely.

thank god these lyrics are in a language i don't understand because those melodies can be pretty sappy at times.

The guy's from Avignon. It's impossible not to write romantic lyrics when you live in Provence.

Profound Lore simply can do no wrong. They've put out Wold, Caina, Angelic Process, and now this all in 2007. What an incredibly strong label.

Yeah, they're easily the best label going right now, regardless of genre. Amber Aylum, Cobalt, and Pulsefear are others that they've put out recently.

Well, we'll have to be persistent, then. :)

This album has very broad appeal, I can't imagine many people here not liking this.

this might be the best "nu-gaze" record of the year, right up there with that new Film School.

I finally gave this a listen, and can confirm the pretty music to match the pretty cover. My only gripe at this point is that some of the guitar work is too loud, and tends to out-muscle the great atmosphere and pretty vocals. Maybe i'm just new to this whole "nu-gaze" thing, or maybe i just prefer good ole shoegaze, but i think less electric guitar from this kinda thing would be a definite plus. When the guitar does drop off, oh god, this is some breathtaking stuff. "Tir Nan Og" (not surprisingly one of the quieter songs) is absolutely stunning. Well Sask, Simakos...count me in.

That's the black metal influence, the loud tremolo picking and the double-hit snare that pop up from time to time. But as you can likely tell, the BM influences are very minimal.

Got the CD in the mail, and the artwork is every bit as sublime as the music.
