chances of anyone downloading this are slim to none but I have to try anyway; every once in a while you run across one of those obscure bands that you feel the need to share with as many people as possible, just due to the massive injustice of their obscurity, and Idaho is a textbook case of this. It's mainly the project of Jeff Martin, a guitarist and classically trained pianist who plays almost every instrument on the albums. You could call it 'slowcore' along the lines of Galaxie 500 or American Music Club (ie. there's a lot of reverb) but it goes so much deeper than that; instead of just stretching out simple melodies to the breaking point he uses four-string guitars, bizarre alternate tunings, ambient noise, unorthodox percussion, and anything else handy to create hauntingly beautiful piano pieces ("Levitate", "On the Shore"), catchy, relatively lightweight indie pop ("Only in the Desert"), the rare anthemic rock song ("Pomegranate Bleeding"), and moody but gorgeous guitar work ("Jump Up", "If You Dare", "Goldenseal", etc.). Prodigiously talented songwriter, and one that I'm sure a lot of you would really get into.
