As for my hating on those rappers, I won't deny that my comment was lazy. That said, Common deserves righteousness points for at least attempting to not fall into what rap music has become.
When I cared, really cared about rap and hip-hop, the music was innovative, cutting edge, and better than anything else out there. It just isn't like that anymore. Not that Common is, but he's damn sure alot closer to it than the Lil Army.

Also, complaining about corny Common lyrics seems so... easy. I mean, he has ALWAYS been corny. That line in "Resurrection" : "Eatin beef sometimes I try to cut back on that shit / This rap shit is truly outta control!"
