but this is something I can watch endlessly. It has a hypnotic quality. And what a fantastic call (not sure if that's Verne Lundquist or not).

i love the suspense at the end of the chip in when the ball looks like its done rolling, then rolls just a little bit more to go in

"After much thought into this, I have finally come to a conclusion as to why the ‘Meet the Spartans’ commercial is so funny:

It is an interesting choice to have Sanjaya sing ‘I’m not gay,’ as his final words on earth. As he is plummeting into a seemingly bottomless pit, he does not say ‘dear god no,’ ‘I love you mom,’ or even simply ‘argh.’ He instead takes the moment to reaffirm to the world, in spite of their doubts, that he is not a homosexual. Not only that, but he continues to sing, despite falling to his certain death. The distinct lack of plausibility of this situation is what produces giggles from our mouth. It is the antithesis to the belief that ‘it’s funny because it is true.’

Yeah, you really can't script a better shot than that.

What was the other shot from like a year or so ago, where the ball just hung at the edge of the green or top of a hill or something like that for about 7 seconds, then rolled straight into the hole? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

edit: Well that was easy enough. First Youtube hit for "amazing golf shot":

I like the guy who still needs to putt as Tiger, the gallery, the cameras, everyone pretty much starts moving to 17... "uh, guys, I'm still putting here."

the only comparison that i could come up with was larry mize pitching up and in--a sick shot in its own right--to beat Greg Norman in a playoff. that elicited a similar 'wow' reaction (actually, i recall them simply screaming 'oh!'). but i think this tops that by a long shot, excuse the pun.

I was sitting in the Mirage sportsbook in Vegas when Tiger's shot occurred. A thousand dudes going batshit nuts when the ball fell in the hole. I doubt i'll ever forget that.

i love those moments. Several moments come to mind when i was in a public setting and the audience present went apeshit.

One of my favs was when i was at Gametime, the bar across the street from where the Milwaukee Bucks play.
They were down by 10 pts or something, and they started making a comeback in the last few minutes. Finally, they shoot a last second 3ptr and everyone goes apeshit in disbelief. Even better, we would watch people coming out of the arena going crazy

it's best when you're actually at the event! i still remember being at a high school hoops game in richmond, IN where the home team hit a half court shot at the horn to force overtime. bedlam and yes, that is verne lundquist sports aren't that important, but you do get those moments of mass jubilation that don't happen elsewhere in life

it was pretty amazing when dan jansen (the speed skater whose sister died literally on the eve of his race and he proceeded to wipe out rounding one of the turns, dashing his chances in that event and spoiling the rest of the games for him) came back to win and set a world record in the process. that was one of those feel-good moments i'll always remember.

Good call.

As far as Tiger, it's clips like this that make me hate the guy even more. Yeah, he's a great golfer, but the guy seems to get every break on the course. I know, I know, he makes his own breaks. Yeah, yeah. Other things I hate about Tiger:

1. When he's 13 shots off the lead and we still need to see everyone one of his shots and get reports on how poorly he's playing.
2. When he acts appalled every time someone take a picture while he's swinging. I understand it's bad form on the part of the fan, but Tiger's the reason all these NASCAR fans are coming to golf tournaments these days. He's also making quite a bit of money because of it.
3. When he walks between holes and looks like he's going to flatten anyone who talks to him. We get it, Tiger, you're intense, but an occassional smile for a kid isn't a lot to ask.
4. When he acts like he was robbed when his 50 foot putts don't go in every time. Again, we all know how great you are, but sometimes a good lag is a good shot.

So, anyone else hate this guy?
