is there a legal distinction between marriage and civil union? why not have everything that goes through a courthouse be called a civil union? if people want to say that they're "married", it's up to them and their church
Yeah, because if a civil union grants all the entitlements that a marriage would, who cares what it's called? I don't think we have civil unions in CA. We do have 'domestic partnerships' but those only pertain to gays of any age or heteros if one of the partners is >65. Which is discriminatory.

it may not matter what it's called unless of course it is called marriage because then the feds would have to ante up some rights, not just the states.Yeah, because if a civil union grants all the entitlements that a marriage would, who cares what it's called?
edit: and now that i think about it, that's not even correct. (mass.) nh does call it marriage but the feds still don't recognize it because the marriage is between the same sex.
