Pitchfork: Is the next Swan Lake that close?

SK: There's tentative plans to record in February. That's all I know.

THAT'S ALL I NEED.

DISCUSS.

I really liked a lot of what I heard in that interview. New Wolf Parade should be pretty soon then, new Swan Lake, possible Krug/Stewart collaboration. It all sounded pretty sweet. Also, though it will never happen, even the idea of a Krug/Mangum collaboration made me really happy.

as much as I want to like Spencer Krug, he just encompasses so much of what's wrong with indie music in 2007.
Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

Playing really great music in a number of bands because it's something he's passionate about?

if there is one person who could bring about jeff's re-emergence, i'd put my money on krug. he comes of as quite the mensch, especially considering all the hype that gets tossed around his name. can't imagine how he has anything to do with what's wrong with the state of indie these days. win butler, craig finn, a bunch of others seem to grow more self-important by the season, but krug keeps chugging away, doing what he's been doing all along with nary a drop in quality in sight.

Beast Moans will one day be seen as a masterpiece.

I'm already starting to write the revisionist history.

Elaborate on this statement in a way that doesn't make it seem like you have no idea what you're talking about.

Bejar is an animal, Destroyer is phenomenal.

Tears of the Valedictorian is one of my favorite records of 2007.

I couldn't care less about Spencer Krug.

2/3 ain't bad, but Beast Moans was.

He just brings nothing new or interesting to the table. As much as I enjoy a few Wolf Parade songs, Krug does nothing but crank out this fragile, unchallenging, white-bread, wavery-voiced indie rock with melodies (Wolf Parade) and without (Sunset Rubdown), but in the latter's case, dresses it up with unnecessarily long songs and emptily obtuse song titles to give the impression that something interesting is going on. Random Spirit Lover is nothing but an inspired opening track and almost an hour of this ugly, self-important mess that Krug yelps over.

you liked the second Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album so don't even front on what's good and what isn't.

How could you like Bejar and Mercer, but not Krug? That make's absolutely no sense.

Beast Moans is an underground sensation.

Another tired argument about reinventing the wheel and pretension in indie rock? Oh boy.

can't see how tired it could be when Krug gets his junk smoked by every relevant publication ever to write about music.

It is on this board. The unquantifable 'pretension' and the relatively unimportant 'innovation' index say next to nothing about the actual music. And of course, many people, myself included would argue that Krug innovates anyway.

that would be fair enough if he was bringing the quality, but really he just put out about six average-to-good tunes on the Wolf Parade album and the black hole of ugly chords and tuneless overemoting that is Sunset Rubdown.

So the overarching problem with regards to Spencer Krug and indie-rock is that he makes music you think sucks, and then influences other people to make music that sucks? I'm sure a ton of people agree with you. But of course there's fanboys like me who don't Best voice in all of music today. He was a big part of a top 3 album 4 times in the last three years, in my book, and is half of my favorite record ever. Results not typical.

if you can't hear the melodies on Shut Up I Am Dreaming then you have no ear, and from your statement, you are also blissfully deluded, but that can be a good thing.
