kinda surprised this album hasn't been discussed. i guess this board is just getting indier with each passing day. i feel like this album would've been lapped up on the SOMB circa 2002.

As it is, it's a pretty solid mainstream rock record. Actually, more than solid. Sure, they may be a bit over-eager to announce themselves as the next Nirvana, but I give them credit for having enough confidence to go after it (however misplaced it might be).

other thoughts?

Simakos likes it. It has actually been discussed by a few people on this board. There might even be a thread somewhere. I watched them perform the lead single from this album on some late-night show and it sounded exactly like Archers of Loaf.

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

I saw the video with the wine, which I enjoyed. It reminded me of Lucero going pop Nirvana.

Is the single in question the one about how no mother ever dreams her daughter grows up to be a junkie? I think it may be weeks before I am able to form an opinion on that one

i really like this record. been trying to pimp it on you fuckers since i saw them at Lolla this summer. this is what i want mainstream America to be listening to and apparently they are... great songs, great yelling singer, silly heartfelt lyrics, and amazing production. paves, i definitely hear a little Loaf in them, but more than anything i hear a pop punk Georgia Satellites.

"Thrash Unreal" has got to be the best mainstream-rock single this year.

I've been a fan of the band for a few years and I dig New Wave. It's pretty solid from top to bottom, but I miss the diversity found on their earlier records.

Single and those behind it in the thread are enough to convince me!
Nice bowl of Crunchy Nut you got here, pretty expensive as I recall.

Absolutely true, especially since a few months ago I started a thread basically saying the exact same thing (don't make me find it. It's out there- Props to the missus for recognizing the awesomeness of this song long before me.)

This is an album which is all piles of awesomeness. Look for this in my top 10, perhaps top 5. The fact this record has not been eaten up by the mainstream in mind-boggling. Loud, angry, hooks that go on for weeks... this is a great record.

I like this album, but not as much as their older albums. The production is too nice, and theres no snarling, growling, or shouting. "Thrash Unreal" is pretty great, but then you have crap that sounds like Franz Ferdinand (a.k.a. "Stop")

i have no time for people who claim this album is inferior to previous releases.

abrasiveness is overrated.

i felt the angry, abrasive sound fit with their angry, abrasive "message" i guess. I really like the album, but not as an Against Me! album (does that make sense?)

Good album...some great songs on there. "Thrash Unreal" is indeed one of the best songs of the year. That one they do with Tegan (or is it Sara?) is also pretty darn great.

The album is really front-loaded, but I'd still recommend buying it.

If you're going to make that claim, I would ask 2 questions:

1) Is there anything else besides the chorus of "Stop" that sounds like FF?

2) Is "Stop" such a bad song? Because I really like it.

Tracks 2-4 are killer when played back to back to back.
