Aside from Ian Curtis being the poster boy for all awkward, hipster, fringe kids...the music is kind of weak. They don't have a body of work, just a few decent songs. "Not fitting in" has become a fashion style and they started the trend. i.e. Interpol's latest album sucks.

I like it when bands cover Joy Division. Can't say I'm planning to spin one of their records anytime soon.

that's a shame, yancy. they just remastered three of their best albums, and the quality is amazing. they come with live discs too, which is what joy division is really about, for me.

Also, Cutis was more than anything... a giant pussy for giving up. Why should he be celebrated for that?

I think the legend is better than the band, but I wouldnt say they "suck"

Their sound was really innovative at the time too.
Plus, say what you will about faux-angsty music but (and Im not really a fan) you cant deny that Ian Curtis really "meant" it.

Also, Control is gonna be rad.

He was also on really harsh and "primitive" meds at the time which would make it hard for anyone to act sensibly.

The greatest virtue of Joy Division is that is sowed the seeds for New Order. "Love Will Tear us Apart" is glorious because of the keyboards and the instrumentation. It's the only listenable song for me with Joy Division, frankly because it sounds like New Order.

^yeah they really soiled the legacy of that band, so unneccesary the whole band are generally mean and inconsiderate assholes edit: i am talking about joy division, not nada surft. they seem like solid dudes.

they had a handful of amazing songs, but on the whole... yeah. much more influential than great for me. a good chunk of it has to do with the production on their records for me though. thank you Ian Curtis for your suicide paving the way for New Order

it's not an issue of New Order > Joy Division or vice versa; the only reason they're compared is because it's the same members obviously, but stylistically there's absolutely no grounds to call one superior if you want pop and dance music done very well you turn to New Order, if you want harsh and minimalistic post-punk done very well you turn to Joy Division. They didn't suck, they're just relatively inaccessible.
Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.
