I wonder if anyone else is gonna be voting for that Katie Melua single this year.

What A Wonderful World, Katie Melua's charity duet with the late Eva Cassidy, will top the UK singles chart this weekend, midweek sales data suggests. According to Music Week, their version of the Louis Armstrong song will knock Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis off the top spot after seven straight weeks. Profits from the sale of the single - only available via supermarket Tesco - will go to the British Red Cross.
Cassidy, a heroine of Melua's, died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 33. Bookmakers Ladbrokes make the single 5/1 to be Christmas number one, just behind Leona Lewis.
Nice bowl of Crunchy Nut you got here, pretty expensive as I recall.

Yeah- I thought it was albums...but then it's a soundtrack and I thought I read that "Once" is not eligible for albums list.

I interviewed the guy for an article and I fell in love with the album. It's everything I want to remember about 2007.

You must be a really big fan.
Every Sunday morning I wake up
I see you by your dresser doing your make-up
Fluttering a Chinese fan in a Knoxville fashion
All last night you tossed and turned
Your body was hotter than the night Richmond burned
You say you had a bad nightmare about tractor trailers crashing

Incorrect, which is why it's elligible for oscars.

They wrote the songs for the movie, the movie is it's first appearance. Over the course of time while the movie was in post-production, they put out a CD which had many of the songs on it. The CD was released before the movie.

That still makes it ineligible as a 2007 album for this poll though.

I've always defended CocoRosie, but I'm not sure if Ghosthorse really did it for me. Some songs I like, but that reggae song about Japan just kills it.

<3 that song. And pretty much every other song on the album, hence my #1.

This song is a lot of fun when they do it live, but I can surely see why someone wouldn't like it.

Red is right

44. Angels & Airwaves - I-Empire

considering I haven't yet heard an A&A single I wouln't rank in my top 40 of the respective years of release, I've always been tempted to check out one of their full lengths, despite the staggeringly bad reviews. Might have to sneak a listen to this in before Sunday.

Forgot to say I dug Theremin's list. Glad to see Galactic, Cinematic Orchestra and Dub Trio (haven't heard this one yet- cool as the first two?).

not exactly true

Say It to Me Now was first released in '95 on The Frames album Fitzcarraldo

The Swell Season album came about after Glen & Mar were approached to write songs for a Czech movie called Beauty In Trouble. the songs they came up with ended up as the Swell Season album released in April 2006 (yes, while Once was wrapping up production), so that's already 2 songs that weren't initially written with Once in mind (Falling Slowly & When You're Mind's Made Up).

Also, Falling Slowly and When You're Mind's Made Up were both songs that had been played by Glen and/or The Frames quite some time before 2006 (i think i first saw When You're Mind's Made Up live in 2003 if i recall).

That leaves only these to have been possibly written specifically for Once:

If You Want Me" (Irglová)
Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy (Hansard)
The Hill (Irglová)
Fallen from the Sky (Hansard)
Trying to Pull Myself Away (Hansard)
All the Way Down (Hansard)
Once (Hansard)

Once was obviously written for the movie, as was Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy , but i've never heard specifically regarding the others.

and from my knowledge of The Frames & Glen's live catalog, i think All The Way Down and Fallen From The Sky were played live by either or both prior to 2006 as well.

sorry, i'm a nerdy Frames fan ;)

as for Oscar eligibility, obviously some tracks on the album are, but the only way i could think say "Falling Slowly" would be eligible for an Oscar is if they claim that the version Glen & Mar did was written specifically for the movie, but the songs origins pre-date the film.

5. Against Me! - New Wave

5. Larry the Cable Guy - Morning Constitutions

Just so I understand the new scoring method: Does that mean these two votes are equally weighted?

Awesome.
