What are Chicago's Concealed Weapon limitations? Can you carry a concealed weapon?

For those of you packin' heat, why?

For those of you who opt to let criminals & police handle guns, why?

Just curious to the tenor of the site in regards to the Second Amendment.

Concealed handguns are prohibited in all of Illinois. I'm also fairly certain the possession of handguns is not allowed in Chicago. The technicality is that all guns in Chicago must be registered, but Chicago has not allowed the registration of guns since 1982. As for general thoughts, I'm on the fence. I'm more on the libertarian side of the fence, though, in favor of carefully monitored gun ownership. I don't feel like getting into a big debate about it though, because I'm not particularly passionate about the issue.

Just curious to the tenor of the site in regards to the Second Amendment.

You know, the second amendment doesn't really exist in law. It has never been incorporated by the Supreme Court (never been used in a case), so apparently there is no real "right to bear arms," so all gun-control laws are state-regulated. If there was federal right to bear arms, I would pack a .45 just for shits.
But among the jackals, the panthers, the bitch hounds, The apes, the scorpions, the vultures, the serpents, The yelping, howling, growling, crawling monsters, In the filthy menagerie of our vices, There is one more ugly, more wicked, more filthy! Although he makes neither great gestures nor great cries, He would willingly make of the earth a shambles And, in a yawn, swallow the world; He is Ennui! — His eye watery as though with tears, He dreams of scaffolds as he smokes his hookah pipe. You know him reader, that refined monster, — Hypocritish reader, — my fellow, — my brother!

I have a FOID card. I got it so my brother and I could bond over an afternoon at the gun range and then go get wasted. But all the gun safety courses are like $200 so now we have our FOID cards but have yet to bust a cap.

if there was just, like, a gun store that I passed every day on the way to and from class or something, and I could just go in and get one with no hassle if I wanted to, I'd definitely have bought a dozen by now as it is buying one is probably kind of a drag

GDB, if I understand New York City correctly, and I'm pretty sure that I do, most (all?) alleyways in your neighborhood should have black men, mexican fellows, and arab gentlemen holding briefcases full of guns that you can buy. You are probably not looking hard enough.

Like someone else, I'm not real passionate about the issue...but I do think the second amendment should be withdrawn. Given the technology of "arms" today, and the court's disparate interpretation if the amendment...it's really an amendment that doesn't serve any practical purppose anymore. As for handguns, I don't think there's any justifiable excuse for their existence except for in the hands of the armed forces or police. I do believe in the right to own hunting guns, and guns to protect your homestead...but any such gun should be a rifle/shotgun that can't be concealed. As for personal experience with guns...it's very minimal. I've shot a .22 on a bunch of occasions, and my dad held a .9 mm handgub in my hand while we shot it together (I was probably about 10)...and that's about it. Edit: I'm a little drunk right now...so I'm not even gonna try correcting the spelling/gramatical errors.

Never shot a gun, never wanted to. When I was little my dad was a hunter and when he would clean his rifle he'd point it at me. So, yeah. Legally, I don't have a problem with people owning guns for sport or protection, but I don't see why gun nuts get all up in arms (no pun intended) over things like licensing and background checks. If anything, I think the licensing requirements should be more stringent and involve gun safety classes & a test just like driver's licenses.

i have two guns but i don't keep them in the city. nothing spectacular...just a 22 cal rifle and pistol. the pistol was given to me by my aunt back when i was a teenager. she used to keep it in her purse when she lived in AZ. she lived out in the sticks a bit so there was always coyotes and stuff around that she was a bit ascared of.

if i could go out and buy a gun right now it would be this...

I have two guns. One is a .22 bolt action rifle and the other is a really really old double barrel break action 12 gauge shotgun that my great uncle gave to me. I got my FOID card about 3 years ago and took my hunter/gun safety class right after that. And I got a 100% on the test required to pass the class (it was a fairly easy test).

I don't really care either way but when I found out there was no concealed carry in Illinois it made me think about some things Like I always figured oh people are smart enough to handle guns but now that I know this there are a lot of kids I went to high school with who I have to imagine would have brought street justice down on some mexican who made them nervous in the IIT student parking lot by now if they were legally allowed to dick around with a gun tucked into the back of their tapered leg black Wranglers

This thread got me back in the "needing to fire some fucking guns" mode. I called my brother & he agreed. What I need is a link or number to a place that will provide gun safety lessons for $25-$75 so I can walk into any indoor gun range and begin using the firearm immediately.

My brother is big into fishing & I hate fishing. I love soccer & he couldn't care less. So the natural halfway point to brotherly bond is firing weapons together & getting wasted afterwards.

Don't own. Don't carry. Never will. I've said it before--shooting someone is such a cold, impersonal way to kill them. You wanna kill from a distance? Get a flame-thrower. Those are totally bad ass.

They passed a conceal-carry law up here in Minnesota since I moved up here a few years back (hmmmm...coincidence?). So now you have places like churches and bookstores that have to post signs saying "We ban guns on these premises". Well, I would hope so.

If it were up to me I'd have one on the closet shelf. But the missus is way strongly opposed. And she feels more strongly against than I do in favor, so I'm ok with it.
