Even if i had never seen a picture of the stunningly beautiful Welsh girl, heard her amazing live performances with Jools Holland, or read her amazing backstory, this performance alone would ensure my love for her.

I present Duffy.

Her new single "Mercy" is already on the Radio 1 Playlist, and her debut is out in March.

I'm in love.

I'm pretty sure my mind will never be changed about anything by watching pixilated, overly compressed youtube videos.

she has a lovely voice. but she's really not doing anything all that interesting with it. she sure is pretty though. i wonder how she'll go with adele's album dropping at the end of the month. i reckon the gossip rags in the uk should set it up as a 'blur vs oasis' style battle to take amy's crown.

It's Adele vs. Duffy. Duh.
Nice bowl of Crunchy Nut you got here, pretty expensive as I recall.

Even if I really fell in love with this stuff, I'd feel like a real asshole recommending it to someone. I'll probably check it out anyway.

No, it'll be stupid, and we're already doing something stupid.

As throwback Britpop goes, "Rockferry" is too far in the Winohorse direction for my taste. I'm firmly in the upbeat Pipettes/Lucky Soul camp. Duffy's voice gets a bit shrill at times, too. Not my thing.

The Bernand Butler element has me interested. But it's impossible for her to "save music", when she's clearly riding a wave started by Winehouse, Pipettes, Ronson, Lily Allen, Fabienne Delsol, Candie Payne... She's better than Adele in the Chav Soul '08 sweepstakes.

Obviously she won't save music. If she was cloned, perhaps.

Number one single at the weekend here, which when you listen to the track is pretty impressive considering how different itis compared to usual chart-topppers

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of "Mercy." I love everything else I've heard from her though - even her old Welsh stuff.

So I'm thinking between Eve "Gwen Cooper" Myles and Duffy, some folks should get over their contempt of the Welsh.

You could no doubt add Char Church to Welsh birds list as well as Gwenno from The Pipettes.

I'm old enough to remember Mary Hopkin, 1960's Welsh songstress ("Those Were The Days"), McCartney project, and early Apple Records artist (my dad has the original vinyl album).

Being wowed by Laura Marling and disappointed by Adele, I've largely resisted Duffy so far. There's a five song promo up on Kokoro that I may check out.

Doesn't seem to be a problem for Super Furry Animals, Tom Jones or Terry Jones, even. ;)

Perhaps I should have been more specific and said English people posting on message boards who have weird prejudices about Welsh and Scots similiar perhaps to the way urban Americans feel about deep south rural Americans. Then should have added something about being baffled by class snobbery and geographic distinctions draw on a few islands so tiny, how one can feel superior to some other city or speck of tiny land while the rest of the world can't tell any of 'em apart. Plus Eve Myles is fuckin' hot.
