I looked around and didn't see a recent thread, so oh man, I made a topic in Music. Terrifying.

Anyone check out the new Be Your Own Pet disc? It leaked about a week back -- sounds about the same as the self-titled, has generally terrible lyrics, and yet it still fills a necessary gap for me.

I was all about the first album in '06 for a few months, but it quickly faded for me after 30-40 listens (I think I ranked it about #12 EOY). My first impression of Get Awkward wasn't especially noteworthy, but since last weekend, I've played it about six times and can see myself enjoying this regularly for a couple months (and then promptly losing interest). "You're a Waste" and "Black Hole" are my favorites right now.

Spread some love/hate, friends.

how did they make it to a second album? this band is the proverbial turd that won't flush. remember that one time they duped the music press for 5 minutes? that was hilarious.

This new record is not good. It's better produced... and the worse for it. It also has some of the worst lyrics you'll hear this month. Which is a shame, because if I saw that cover I'd normally need to hear this. Their energy is both their asset and liability. They need to take a deep breath and write a song.

i fucking love byop first album but i gave this one two listens and put it away...truly dissapointed...the point was made before about better production being a disservice and couldnt agree more...

but as far as hating these guys first album...come on...

i dont see how people can love jay reatard and hate these guys...theyre the same fucking thing...

fast...hard and irreverent...

one big difference id fuck jemina pearl....

they did once simmer down breathe and make a song - october, first account track....and of course it was the slowest song on the album but prolly the best one on it...

I wouldn't have minded in the studio sheen if they had gone a little more bubblegum in their hooks and choruses. The cover would seem to suggest that. Go Blondie, guys! Oh well.

Ok, revisiting this after the thread provoked me, it's grown on me. There's definite Black Flag/Descendents/Circle Jerks* skatepunk thing going on. It's all snotty teen trash culture, circa 1984, in Southern California's Valleys. If they remake Repo Man with Shia LaBeouf, this will be on the soundtrack. I still want them to change it up and go poppier. *"Eating pizza is really great / so is destroying everything you hate" reminds me of Six Pack or I Like Food.

Yeah, Brent ruined everything with the SoCal '80s punk comparison. It makes me actually curious to hear a freakin' sophomore effort from Be Your Own Pet.

Horrible music.
Nice bowl of Crunchy Nut you got here, pretty expensive as I recall.
