I've never been a fan of the Eagles cover. Too damn clean. I agree that no one should cover Tom Waits. It's incredibly tempting, especially the early material, but never as good.

Y'know, his version "Downtown Train" is just worthless, and I bet Tom thanks him mentally every time he cashes another royalty check.

The only possible good thing to come from his cover of Downtown Train is that I heard it kept the Bob Seger version from being released.

I agree that no one should cover Tom Waits. It's incredibly tempting, especially the early material, but never as good.

Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Moviessurprisingly great, never picked up his past releases, but this one's knocking my socks off right away, 8.7/10
M. Ward - Hold Time 8.0/10
Neko Case -Middle Cyclone her best I've heard is my initial impression, but too soon to rate, haven't had a really good listen yet 7.8/10
