Seriously, how rad is this show?

Im stuck at work all night on magazine deadlines so I finally get a chance to sink my teeth into it and now Im hooked.

Basically the dad from Malcolm in the Middle plays a family man high school chemistry teacher.
He finds out that he has inoperable cancer and decides to go into the meth business.
Its a little bit more complicated than that, but that's pretty much the hook.
Its smartly written, dark and sickly funny and I never knew that Bryan Cranston had this in him. This is movie star work.
Sure its a little bit like Weeds crossed with Falling Down, but Weeds didnt really deliver for me much this season and besides, what they do with the premise is more important than the premise itself.

It will be fun seeing how all this unfolds over the course of the season.

I've been eagerly anticipating more SOMB discussion of this show, it's really starting to get good. Loved the scenes with Jesse's family last week. And that sign guy at the bank who tried to "Helicopter" him

This show feels like it was one of those "it" premises that nervous network execs passed on even though insiders knew it was brilliant. Certainly the cornerstone for AMC to alter its footprint, anyway. Preferable to running Porkys movies, at least.

Fuck yeah. Sunday's episode was the best yet in an already great series. Can't wait to see how they end the season.

he jumped into the meth game a little too quickly... they dont even show him debating it the same way he debates whether he should kill the gangster in his basement. however, i do love this show. it kills most of whats on tv these days, even if it is slightly hard to believe.

It's getting hard for me to stomach the never ending series of bad decisions made by both main characters, but then, I guess there wouldn't be a show if they made sound, logical choices. Fulminated mercury saved the day just when I thought Walt had done the single dumbest thing so far. I find it hard to believe Tuco continues to deal with Walt, as shown in the teaser for next week. Any hardass drug kingpin worth his salt would kill a muthafucka after that mercury incident.

Probably. But the way they've built up Walt's product (including the speed it sold at) and the old "you gotta respect the crazy bastard" thinking makes it plausible enough.

I've loved the slow breakdown of Walt's hesitation and qualms over the series. I think the poker scene where he talks to the brother in law about the janitor conveys the important message that Walt is in this come hell or high water and doesn't care if innocents get hurt. I think this will end up being a foreshadowing of next weeks finale. It's interesting to see how Walt has gone from a guy who goes through an episode and a half of hand wringing over killing a drug dealer that will kill him if he doesn't, to a guy that doesn't flinch when an innocent man who's friendly toward him gets put away because of his actions.
