I recently downloaded an 11-song tour-only lp from these guys, and it is really good. Like best thing i've heard all year good. I won't bother going into the background of the band (i dont know all that much), but they do have a bunch of demos, an ep and a forthcoming album in June. The music itself sounds like a distillation (or copping) of every movement that rock has seen in the last 50 yrs. Seriously: this thing will get comparisons to Pavement, and then various classic rockers, in the same sentence as Dirty Projectors. The influence is varied for sure, but it all works for them--this is fun, summery rock n roll.

I especially think this will appeal to the King Khan crowd. It's got a similar low-fi quality (hopefully this carries over to the full-length).

Now that i've butchered a description and have turned 90% of you off of this already (i hate this part of recommending stuff), i'll redeem myself by posting some samples.

Nice find! This is one of the better, most-interesting things I've heard this year (a year without anything that interesting so far, but still). Nice amalgam of sounds and styles, with songs to boot. Your description is fairly spot-on, though I don't hear much King Khan here.

Three free tracks there.

Might have to check these guys out next week when they're back in town.

I saw these guys open for The Walkmen and White Rabbits. They were pretty entertaining, a perfect opening band. The bassist looks like he's 15.

At times they remind me of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

If anyone has still not d/led the full tour lp, do it now! I really had a hard time deciding which tracks to post as samples, as the whole thing is excellent. These were my favs though, especially track 11. I love the charlie brown-esque piano line, it makes me smile everytime i listen to it.

on the forthcoming album front, i believe it will be called "Workout Holiday," and is tentatively slated for June 23. [there seems to be some confusion about this though--some sources have called this tour lp Workout Holiday, and have called their forthcoming album "Explosion"...so i dunno]

either way, here is the first single from their soon-to-be debut album, whatever it ends up being called. Oh, and the single is gooood.

"Let's Talk About It"

White Denim totally made it onto my Hype Machine dashboard for like a week until I felt like such a jackass for having a band called "White Denim" on my dashboard, let alone having a dashboard. META, RIGHT? I dig though.

They've been doing a lot of opening slots, saw 'em open for Tokyo Police Club back in October or something. Was expecting to hate them but didn't mind it that much. Thanks for the uploads, I'll check it out.

Where'd I see White Denim? I know it was at Schubas so I thought it was TPC. They're from Texas, right? They said it was their first show outside of the state. Hmm. edit: 10/08/2007 Tokyo Police Club with White Denim and The Virgins nice search function on Schubas website, btw.
