Other constructions that don't cause me to flinch are things like "Can you borrow me a buck," "Can I come with?" and even Pittsburgher verb forms like "The car needs washed."

The Pittsburgh stuff drives me crazy.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but "whom" needs to be retired. It feels as natural and relevant as words like "shan't" and "betwixt." Phase it out.

I strenuously disagree. "Whom" is the objective form of "who," and the two separate words' continued differentiation (in the sense of signification of case and positionality) promises linguistically practical advantages

I like thinking that you were too exhausted with your own verbosity to include a period.

I shan't come betwixt thee and thine "whom" anon.

I still use "shan't" fairly regularly. I'll grant you I'm being an asshole every single time.

No, it'll be stupid, and we're already doing something stupid.

Not sure that refutes anything either me or Slack have said. :P

The whole that/which/what relative pronoun debacle is a whole nother can of worms. We'll save that lesson for another day.

fixed.

Still waiting for Slackmo to delete this thread.

I'm a stickler for grammar generally (not on msg boards, obvs) but I'd love to abolish the rule against ending sentences with a preposition. Sometimes there's just no way around it without sounding cunty.

Many grammar type folks have already discarded that one. And rightly so.

It isn't something to really worry about. I heard that it is rule that no one can really put a finger on.
It is something that folks should just get past. ;)
