I bought an iPod Sept 30. Last night the battery went dead. Now I can send it in for over 60 bucks, plus shipping, or go to an Apple store. There they can probably fix it. To the someone who said to not get an iPod: You were right. I wish I had gone with something else.
That really sucks. Hope you get everything cleared up/fixed/replaced. For all I've read about iPod batterys crapping out on people, I'm surprised that my second generation 20 gig iPod that I've had for about 3 and a half years now still works as well as it does, especially after I had left it plugged in for about three months straight.

I bought my first iPod last February and sold it to Derek (Hewletts Daughter) in the fall. I believe it's still working fine for him.
I got the 60GB iPod video when it was released in the fall, along with a two-year AppleCare plan. It's been great so far.
Ironically enough, I wound up selling it to my sister for a fraction of what I bought it for, and it's working wonderfully for her. She treats the thing like shit, too, so yeah, good buy. But I wound up getting the 60 gig video ipod as well and it works really well. No complaints from this end of the ipod community.

Haha, excellent. Did you get a good case for your iPod? Those scratch up so easily... I bought an aluminum case at first, but have since moved onto the Agent 18 hard plastic case. It's amazing.

For the first three months or so, I had no case and used the shitty slipsleeve it came with. But when we were in Minnesota, I was in Urban Outfitters and saw a case on sale for 10 bucks, so I grabbed it. It then wound up ringing up for three bucks, and definitely turned out to be a great steal.Haha, excellent. Did you get a good case for your iPod? Those scratch up so easily... Yeah, that's the case I got. Good stuff. But mine is still scratched up to high hell. I need to get some cleaning stuff for it or something.

Check out ilounge.com. I know there's a couple of solution kits you can get that'll remove the scratches.
Also, if you're interested in a hard case, I still have that aluminum one I'd be willing to part with. I'm not using it.

I hear and have read that it is pretty easy to replace the ipod battery yourself with some simple instructions online.
I know a Sombie named --Blank-- has done it before and can attest to how easy it was and can forward you instructions. Just send him a note.
Its a common problem for certain ipods.

I'm going to start an earbud thread. Those things are useless.
I think both sets of iPod earbuds I've had have been at least somewhat defective. At least the second pair. And also a pair that came with an iRiver player I bought a couple years ago. I can't stand the buggers, anyway.

I made an appointment at the Apple store, but I think I'd rather try to fix myself. Now I was just at their site and it said it may not be the battery. That is may need to be reset. I was at the Best Buy site. There is a battery pack that says it's compatible with iPod's. It says to attach to the back. Does anyone know if this is good?

Did you try doing a factory reset? Do that before you spend any money or try to exchange. The software should be on your computer already, just make sure you get the newest version.
I've had to reset my iPod a couple times. The iPod video had a nasty bug that made it impossible to turn off, but I believe it was addressed in one of the latest fixes.
I'm going to try that when I get home. Thanks. I hate to have to go to the store if I don't need to. I would have to take two buses, then walk a few blocks. Kind of a pain if I don't have to.
