"carnage" as synonym for decline in asset value in the market "in these tough economic times." "hemorrhage" is more apt as a figure of speech in capturing the escape of large quantities of liquid from an organ or vessel, though it's also overused. "carnage" makes me think of barbarians and civil war battles.
