In the context of a message board, "meta" refers to talking about how you're on a message board in a post on said message board. Critiques of boarding, analyzing board trends, or other self-referential sorts of conversations are "meta".

Unrelated - we just watched a movie called Teeth. It's about a girl with 'vagina dentata' - teeth in her vagina. It was at turns hysterically funny & totally weird. And the actress is smoking hot. I think I'll tell folks this movie was 'meta'?
