Classic rock lists? Snooze. The real halcyon days were in '04 when rockism debates were in full swing, Y$I-like services hadn't turned the music side into a fishing hole, and users with thousands of posts almost exclusively on the et cetera side (like this thread's creator) didn't yet exist. The halcyon days were in '06 when we had those huge assignments of ranking singles and albums in split decades.

No, that was for Undo. I have no problems with YouTubes in thread as long as it isn't hundreds on a page. I do have a problem with people posting the same clips multiple times for no reason.
And without indicating who or what it is specifically, and why I should bother clicking on it. (Hi Deej!)
yeah & your boring industry threads r great!

Should have gone for at least 3-4 pages but I guess we'd rather talk about albums becoming irrelevant or what "indie" means.

I'd talk about music in the music forum if it weren't for the fact I don't give a shit about convincing anyone about anything.
If it comes up, I''ll comment. Otherwise, trivial bullshit is good enough for the workday.
About the wisest thing said in thread - I don't know that the music forum sucks, but I do know there's this tendency to believe that taste can be quantified and measured and objectively proven right, and when that inevitably fails, yes, there's a lot of piss taking and screaming. Since I do it, too, an awful lot, it's difficult to lay into anyone else's behavior.
Most of what's written about bores me, but honestly, I don't know that I'd be any more thrilled with a ten page thread on Hank Williams or Slobberbone...
It will improve, or it won't. It's ridiculous to think any one person has any control over that.

Heh, I actually sort of feel the opposite. You may have a point with the "define indie" thread because that topic has been tilled over a half dozen times in the past few years, but I really liked the album relevance question. People's assumptions and judgements were interesting. There's a place for "megaupload your favorite songs from Genre X" threads, but they get pretty boring.Should have gone for at least 3-4 pages but I guess we'd rather talk about albums becoming irrelevant or what "indie" means.

We need more band-specific threads that envoke discussion
There are 3 or 4 of these I want to start but I see them all just dying on the spot and I'm just one or two steps from plotting my exit strategy from this board anyway.
I read the first two pages and saw who was jumping in and didn't bother with the rest of the thread. Didn't think anything good could come of it from there but perhaps I'll read the rest at a later date.I really liked the album relevance question. Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?
Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

That would be a nightmare to do properly even if people made an honest effort, which they wouldn't. Is it really that hard to scroll down the first page or two of topics in our current music forum?
I use the "view new posts" function every time I'm on here. Saves a hell of a lot of effort.

There's a lot of me in it, so you've been warned.I read the first two pages and saw who was jumping in and didn't bother with the rest of the thread. Didn't think anything good could come of it from there but perhaps I'll read the rest at a later date.
Tragically (?), this is so true.Anything that makes me spend less time here is definitely a positive for my overall health as a human being.

Also, I've tried starting some good threads on less-discussed topics, threads that could bring out the connoisseurs/devotees but would also be nonthreatening and educational for everyone else, but this fails horribly.

I would have posted only to say what GDB expected BGWaves to say about New Forms and then have Deej question me.

Post them already, if they die--they die. Lord knows I've had my fair share of threads that sank faster than an iceberg-dented Titanic.
