The halcyon days were in '06 when we had those huge assignments of ranking singles and albums in split decades. But, that's been done.
I argued that we should spread those out over time, but noooooooooooo.

Mitchell, were you ever a fan of Life Without Buildings? The frustrating thing is making an effort with a thread / post and then getting a complete lack of response from everyone and trying to get people to listen to something they've never heard of without Pitchfork giving it a 8.0+

not true at all....look at the date on the fleet foxes thread vs the date on the fleet foxes pitchfork review for one example of how this isn't true. If it's good enough people will pay attention and listen.

That would be a nightmare to do properly even if people made an honest effort, which they wouldn't. Is it really that hard to scroll down the first page or two of topics in our current music forum?

The repetition on the music side bothers me, personally. Since I have been around here, it seems like the music side is comprised of a handful of thread-types that just rotate, changing only contextually. And, threads like now playing, after a while: it's like: who cares? When the novelty wears off, I really don't care who knows what I am listening to.

Exactly.Trying to subdivide everything into genre would be a farking nightmare of epic proportions. Hardly anything fits squarely under one genre label or another these days. It would turn into a bunch of pointless bickering about why did record XXX get put in the pop genre when it clearly has technometal/r&b fusion bass lines.

your criteria for enjoying music are wrongThe real halcyon days were in '04 when rockism debates were in full swing
Man, there's nothing more annoying than a 'rockism' debate. Last thing I need is somebody giving me an uptight lecture about how my criteria for enjoying music is wrong.
