The halcyon days were in '06 when we had those huge assignments of ranking singles and albums in split decades. But, that's been done.

I argued that we should spread those out over time, but noooooooooooo.

The frustrating thing is making an effort with a thread / post and then getting a complete lack of response from everyone and trying to get people to listen to something they've never heard of without Pitchfork giving it a 8.0+

Mitchell, were you ever a fan of Life Without Buildings?

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

not true at all....look at the date on the fleet foxes thread vs the date on the fleet foxes pitchfork review for one example of how this isn't true. If it's good enough people will pay attention and listen.

Don't worry, been meaning to read that thread. Yes, I was a bit is the answer to the question. I'm watching too much football this week to read every thread I want to.

RIYL: Beach Boys, My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses is the easiest sell in the history of this board. Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend are exceptions that proves the rule. Look at things like No Age and Hercules and Love Affair and countless others.

To put it another way no new artist with a bad Pitchfork score would make our year end top 20. Had Bat For Lashes got a BNM last year it would have made our end of year poll no question.

The repetition on the music side bothers me, personally. Since I have been around here, it seems like the music side is comprised of a handful of thread-types that just rotate, changing only contextually. And, threads like now playing, after a while: it's like: who cares? When the novelty wears off, I really don't care who knows what I am listening to.

That would be a nightmare to do properly even if people made an honest effort, which they wouldn't. Is it really that hard to scroll down the first page or two of topics in our current music forum?

Well... it would require that the mods sort of herded the offtopic stuff. It's not the scrolling, it's the fact that the content usually degenerates into a slanging match. Subdividing the forum wouldn't stop that, but maybe it would help herd the content.

Thee frustrating thing is reading a post that is just too cluttered and messy and long to read.

Trying to subdivide everything into genre would be a farking nightmare of epic proportions. Hardly anything fits squarely under one genre label or another these days. It would turn into a bunch of pointless bickering about why did record XXX get put in the pop genre when it clearly has technometal/r&b fusion bass lines.
