Until Wall-E is released, Ratatouille remains the best Pixar film. It was a phenomenal work.

Is "R" better than "tI"? This is not meant to cheapen either. Effectively, Brad Bird is indomitable.

?

Yeah, this has been nagging at me for a while now. Trying not to think about it too much, don't want it to spoil what could be a good movie.

I prefer The Incredibles to Ratatouille, but as you said, Bird is a god.

But while on the subject...

The Iron Giant
>>>>>The Incredibles>>Ratatouille

(The Iron Giant being my favourite animated film ever)

Toy Story is still by far their crowning achievement (not that the rest are slouches of course). People proclaiming various movies as "best animated movie ever" obviously haven't seen Bambi. Or Pinocchio. I too am extremely excited about Wall*E.

I think so, yes. In pacing Ratatouille is superb. Although I consider the Incredibles to be one of the best scripts ever written. So it may be a matter of which story one feels a greater emotional connection to. For me, that would be Ratatouille and what the movie had to say about passion and art.

Have you guys seen this list?

http://www.afi.com/1.../animation.html

One of these things is not like the other things, one of these things just doesn't belong...
Few beings have ever been so impregnated, pierced to the core, by the conviction of the absolute futility of human aspiration. The universe is nothing but a furtive arrangement of elementary particles. A figure in transition toward chaos. That is what will finally prevail. The human race will disappear. Other races in turn will appear and disappear. And human actions are as free and as stripped of meaning as the unfettered movements of the elementary particles. Good, evil, morality, sentiments? Pure ‘Victorian fictions.’ All that exists is egotism. Cold, intact, and radiant.

No. Snow White is the best animated movie.

Edit: But I don't like to quantify films as animated and non-animated The Incredibles is just a good film.

Hmm. Much as I loved Ratatouille, it didn't sustain it's absolute joy somewhat on repeated viewings, for me. Best animated feature ever, in your book? Ever see any of the Miyazaki films?

yes I have.

To me, Ratatouille gets better with every viewing. LIke significantly better.

Four great movies... but four movies that would not make my top five.

someone told me the first half hour or so is void of dialogue

that's pretty awesome but also pretty risky for a kids movie

whatever, i'm pretty sure i really want to see this but will end up not seeing this because that's how i function with motion pictures

The folks at Pixar have said Wall-e isn't a kids movie. I'm up for it. I hope the short before the film is likewise good.

You and I will probably disagree, but Cinderella is the least of those 10.

Disney's Robin Hood should be on some list somewhere. And 101 Dalmations is (more objectively) brilliant, I think.

Dunno, I give it high marks for the voice actors and the Roger Miller songs than for the animation production itself.

EDIT: Drop Cinderella, replace with Happy Feet.

I don't understand how any serious list of great animation could include that irritating smörgåsbord of lame pop-culture references.

THANK YOU.

The Matrix reference was easily the low point - by the time Shrek came out, it was probably the 1000th time Hollywood recycled the same exact bullet-time spoof.

Yeah, at least with Happy Feet, those other film allusions were more clever, subtle allusions (as long as you could also buy penguins who happen to vocalize American pop tunes as standins for actual penguin-English;)).
