Coming out sometime in September.

There wasn't a definitive thread on Rabbit Fur Coat, so I don't feel bad about starting a new one for the new album. I felt like that one and the Under the Black Light were each extreme of where she could go after More Adventurous (in terms of style, not quality. I actually like UTBL), so it should be interesting to hear this one. It is interesting that Acid Tongue is coming out on Warner Bros. instead of Team Love. Maybe they need to fulfill that Rilo Kiley contract.

Some of Lewis' most steadfast collaborators appear on Acid Tongue: Johnathan Rice, Farmer Dave Scher, Jason Boesel, Jason Lader and M Ward. She also invited other notable musician friends into the fold, including Elvis Costello for a duet ("Carpetbaggers"), Chris Robinson (of The Black Crowes), Benji Hughes, Zooey Deschanel (of She & Him) & Vanessa Corbala (of Whispertown2000) on backing vocals, Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle / The Entrance Band) and her sister Ana provided strings, Davey Faragher (of The Imposters) on bass, as well as Laurel Canyon's own Jonathan Wilson on guitar, and even members of Jenny's own family. Her sister Leslie Lewis provided backing vocals on two songs while her father, harmonica virtuoso Eddie Gordon makes a star turn on rumbling bass harp.

The all analog, no Pro-Tools sessions were all part of a shared aesthetic between Lewis, her producers, and her musician collaborators, working quickly and tracking her vocals entirely live and without embellishment. Recorded at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California in just 3 weeks, the album's tracks, disparate as they are, share a sparkling vitality; Lewis' voice has never sounded so expressive and the narratives have never been so hard-hitting and acerbic.

I am so incredibly amped for this release. The Zooey duet is audio porn, I'm sure. I hope she extends the tour to include The Louisville, Kentucky.

I'm not sure about this Jenny Lewis chick anymore. Playing at a church? She better be serious. I just feel like it's some hipster put-on, the whole 'Are You There God, It's Me, Jenny' thing.

That being said, I love to go see music in churches (mostly chamber music) because of the acoustics and atmosphere. If it's genuine, good for her. Religious houses make for awesome venues. Edit: ! Collab with Paz Lenchantin. LOVE LOVE LOVE her.

Didn't she play some church in New York when the first album came out? As long as it's a good venue and a good album, I don't really care. Her Park West show for the Rabbit Fur Coat tour was fantastic.

Many a band play at Finney Chapel on the Oberlin College campus. Have seen everyone from Patti Smith to English Beat/REM to . Will never forget the line from the member of the concert committee for the Beat show. "If you want to dance on the pews, take off your shoes". And Oberlin, of course alma mater of Liz Phair, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Josh Ritter, and others.

If we count Rilo Kiley, this'll be Jenny's third straight show at the Ogden and I'm none too pleased. Mix it up, bitch.

Oh, stop your bitching people. At least she's playing in your city. I would go see her if she played in a dumpster.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this record. Lewis and Sennett seemed to have tapped that 70s LA rock zeitgeist that I'm such a sucker for. Trails, I saw Liz Phair (awful show) in 94 and Stereolab (awesome show) in 96 at Finney Chapel. Great venue, though I don't think its actively used for religious services anymore.

I'm assuming it's the Ashland one, as they allow people to use their space for special events and from the interior shots of the place, it looks like a nice intimate open room with few pews. Epiphany on the southwest side is a more traditional Catholic church, and it wouldn't make as much sense there logistically.
