Maybe it's just me but I don't even want to look at any of the music threads on here at the moment so I'm being pro-active (hopefully without being condecending).

So yeah, Opeth. One of the most consistant and original metal bands of the last 10 years or so. One of the main reasons they are so brilliant I think, is because of their ability to incorporate progessive, folk and acoustic elements into metal songs and do so in a seamless manner.

Now, obviously a sticking point for a lot of people with metal is the dreaded heavy vocals. Well, this album is no exception. There are some heavy vocals but on the other hand there are some absolutely wonderful sung vocals as well. So there's the best of both worlds. And I do mean best, with Akerfeldt being quite possible one of the best vocalists I can think of.

Away, Watershed is brilliant. Will probably be some people's #1 by the end of the year so it might be worth you checking one of the stand out of the standout Metal releases of this year.

(for people who are put off by track two. It's easily the heaviest album on the track, if you flick forward there might be some less heavier stuff which catches your attention :))

This might be completely stupid as I'm only getting into metal lately, but I think Kayo Dot does this type of thing much better and less obviously.
if you like electronic music, go here, I made it and I think some of you might actually enjoy it:

Well, they have similarities in that they are quite experimental and have a unique sound. They don't sound much alike, though.

Yeah, they're doing completely different things. Opeth is progressive death metal and I don't even know how you'd classify Kayo Dot. Maybe avant-garde orchestral rock?

As far as Watershed goes, I've cooled on it quite a bit. Still love "Heir Apparent" and "The Lotus Eater" but I find myself losing interest after that and usually don't make it through the whole album.

I'm still enjoying it immensely. "Burden" just might wind up being one of my favourite Opeth songs ever, it's gorgeous. But "Lotus Eater" and "Heir Apparent" are right up there as well. "Hex Omega" came on the shuffle the other day, and that still holds up very well.

I still love it, but I just revisited Ghost Reveries for the first time since Watershed came out, and it's definitely better. But the best part about Watershed is that if I skip track 2, I can get away with listening to this album in the car with the family. By the time my wife gets ticked about the growly vocals, they're usually over. And the music is calm enough a lot of the time that she doesn't object.
