Found this on Fark, and am not that surprised. Johnny Rotten is-surprise!-a total prick.

Kele (the guy from Bloc Party, who is black...that's sorta important for the story) evidently asked Johnny Rotten if he was gonna reform P.I.L. while they were both backstage at a Spanish festival.

Johnny told him that his problem was his "black attitude" and then had three dudes punch him.

(then one dude from the Kaiser Chiefs and another from the Foals tried to intervene on Kele's behalf)

Kele: "I am disappointed that someone I held with such high regard turns out to be such a bigot."

Nevermind that Kele is one of the least stereotypically "black" popular musicians. Color me unsurprised if this is all true.

i'm gonna tell Ian Wright. Johnny Rotten is an Ian Wright stan, heard him groveling up to him on TalkSport once. Mind you, Ian is full of shit most of the time and will say it was just a joke. That Kele dude take himself serious though. No one has as much attitude as middle class white kids as Rotten and co proved. the music is made by them, and written about by them. a mess.

I just don't understand what "black attitude" Kele had time to exhibit to Johnny. I mean, even from a stereotypical white dude stance, I don't see where Johnny got the notion that Kele was either going to harm him, or make him listen to rap, or something.
