Russell Brand, a British actor and comedian who has a rather low profile stateside, is getting some extra exposure. He has been snagged by MTV to host this year’s “Video Music Awards,” which air on Sept. 7. Brand had a supporting role in the recent comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”

He got a wiki page

I don't knock the guy because I never heard of him--surely Mitchell/Clem and a few Rogen-heads here probably know who he is-- but I just find it funny that MTV couldn't even dig up a big, big, "A-list" personality to host their miserable excuse of an awards show nowadays.

Love the guy. Listen to his show every week.

I predicted in the spring that he'll be quite popular in the US in the next year. He's as good as any A lister in America.

Ag, you gotta keep up with the pop culture and read all the threads.

I was post #7 on that one. :P

Again, I'm not knocking him...

I saw this guy on conan last week. He was pretty funny but looked strange and all he talked about was sexual opportunities.
But among the jackals, the panthers, the bitch hounds, The apes, the scorpions, the vultures, the serpents, The yelping, howling, growling, crawling monsters, In the filthy menagerie of our vices, There is one more ugly, more wicked, more filthy! Although he makes neither great gestures nor great cries, He would willingly make of the earth a shambles And, in a yawn, swallow the world; He is Ennui! — His eye watery as though with tears, He dreams of scaffolds as he smokes his hookah pipe. You know him reader, that refined monster, — Hypocritish reader, — my fellow, — my brother!

He is very funny. And rambles like a modern day Robin Williams. He is quite the ladies man and he is all about himself which is part of his schtick.

As for looking weird. Well, now you're sounding like someone's dad.

i don't mind how he looks other than the fact that he looks like an over-exaggerated hippie

Or this guy...which cements it that Brand should be an MTV personality.

Iused to get the podcast of his show every week, but when I realized he was only slightly funnier than the average Morning Zoo host in America, I stopped.

Noel Fielding is way way way funnier than Russell Brand. That's probably why he doesn't call in every show, he doesn't want to remind him of it too much.

Noel Fielding's comedy of monkey whimsy is going to look very dated in a few years. Good.

i downloaded an episodeof mighty boosh on accident once, but i have watched that episode at least 3-4 times since i found it on my computer it's the one where noel has the celebrity tracker, the octopus guy goes on a stag vacation, and the shlumpy one with the mustache is being hounded by a guy who wants to fill him up with eels or something very strange show, are all the episodes like that?

Pretty much. I like the Mighty Boosh is small doses, no more than a couple of episodes at a time.

Yeah, but he's still better than Brand.

Brand is already dated.
