I, as well, give this record a full endorsement. I was hyping the single in the "hype the singles" thread.

The Gaslight Anthem's "High Lonesome", from the new album that a few of us have been digging on in another thread, has a couple of good ones - the chorus references the Counting Crows:

"Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand -
I always kinda sorta wished I looked like Elvis"

that's where that is from... it's been killing me trying to place those lines.

Strange to see Pitchfork endorse such wanky Springsteen fanboyism (again).
Nice bowl of Crunchy Nut you got here, pretty expensive as I recall.

it's only strange til you notice that breihan reviewed this. he's had a boner for this record for a while now. his blog posts were actually what convinced me to check them out in the first place.

Aside from Breihan's boner it strikes me as something that they might take to bits normally.

weird that they're giving this an 8.6 and wouldn't even review Against Me!

nope. textbook rock music 101, but pulled off incredibly well

yeah, surprised/shocked me as well. before it was re-released on a larger label even.

that is sort of surprising actually. Against Me! seem to have a decent amount of crossover audience from my experience.

You aren't taking wanky in the correct context. "Wanky fanboyism" doesn't mean "wanky".

eh, normally i'd agree, and that was something i certainly took a week or so to get over with this record, but the total sincerity behind it makes the "fanboy-ism" a dead issue for me.

Oh I quite like the record, the issue for me is that I don't masturbate to "Thunder Road" ever night.

I bought the record after work Friday, the Gaslight Anthem record. Haven't listened to it yet. I did, however, pull it out at the bar 30 minutes or so later when asked what I'd picked up & it turns out they'd come close to putting it out on a buddy's label - that didn't work out. He then chastized me for 'giving my money to the Church'. A quick review of the liner notes reveals a few shout-outs to Christ for what it's worth...
