In 40 years we will realize how insignificant this album was in relation to the scope and influence of a real masterpiece, Chinese Democracy.

Was listening to "Dear Prudence" a couple days ago and noticed that the guitar in the left speaker does some truly wonderful things throughout the second half. Song is full of awesome guitars.

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

There's a mono version, and it's a dedicated mono mix (but released only in UK and Japan), and it's pretty damn awesome. There are some striking differences.

..oh god. don't tempt me to to a beatles 'epic thread.'

'Revolution in the head' reports that there were 67 takes of 'I will' - not that you'd know it from the relaxed atmos of the final cut - enough for a double album on its own.

I mean, I could've just posted the mono mix but where's the fun in that? My preferences are pretty much every pre-white album, I like the mono version more, white album and beyond i'm not really familiar with the mono versions enough to make the call, but I probably prefer the stereo.

Pretty much agree - everything up to Revolver is best heard in mono. With Pepper and White Album, it's a toss-up - the stereo versions are more polished, the monos are kind of sloppy and uneven, but have some awesome moments (like on Birthday and Yer Blues).

Listened to an amazing vinyl rip of the stereo Revolver and was blown away to the point where I might have to reconsider my thoughts on the "mono vs. stereo" issue surrounding that album, although the stereo mix is obviously a nightmare on headphones.

Pepper and The White Album have excellent stereo mixes, especially the latter. Getting to hear a mono Pepper is cool, though.

Love the take of "Sexy Sadie" with John singing, "Who the fuck do you think you are? Oh, you cunt."
Few beings have ever been so impregnated, pierced to the core, by the conviction of the absolute futility of human aspiration. The universe is nothing but a furtive arrangement of elementary particles. A figure in transition toward chaos. That is what will finally prevail. The human race will disappear. Other races in turn will appear and disappear. And human actions are as free and as stripped of meaning as the unfettered movements of the elementary particles. Good, evil, morality, sentiments? Pure ‘Victorian fictions.’ All that exists is egotism. Cold, intact, and radiant.

Revolver was the first one with Geoff Emerick as engineer, who really changed the way they were recorded and mixed. A lot more bass on that, with the drums brought way up for a change (even more so on some of the stereo mixes - She Said for instance). You could almost pin the transition (stereo vs mono) on that guy's involvement.

Recruited for Costello's 'Imperial bedroom' for exactly this reason, ja?
