New article says April 2009 release. That's a long way off, but they have some new material going around and will be going into the studio in the fall. These guys have recently become one of my favorite bands and are clearly some of the best musicians making music right now. Christopher Bear blows me away on certain songs. new stuff (first song is especially good):

Yeah, "While You Wait For The Others" is really great. Looks like they're going for a poppier sound this time around. Should be interesting. I'm seeing them open for Radiohead on Wednesday, so hopefully they play some of the new tracks.

so wish i was seeing them open for radiohead instead of liars. seen liars already and while i wasn't too big on grizzly bear when the record first came out, it's grown on me. i think they'd be a great opener for thom + co. but woe is me.

Yellow House is probably one of my favourite records of the 00's, and the new songs sound spectacular. They killed it at Lolla on Friday, can't wait for the new album.
Just say something perfect, something I can steal.

The Droste/Rossen songwriting team is a tough rival these days.

Saw them last night at Radiohead. Have been a fan since hearing them in 2006. Love the fact all 4 sing. Great harmonies. The Indian looking guy was roaming around VIP area before the show. I recognized him from their spot on Letterman a couple weeks back. Oh yeah, and Radiohead...from 5th row center killed, as usual. What a fucking light show/stage set. All those bullet cameras and the way they messed with them. So slick.

Great band. Can't wait for the new album, and I really like both of those songs. I think I saw a video of them performing that first one on one of the late night show, but I don't remember which.

Yeah, they're awesome. Going to see them at an old synagogue in DC in a couple weeks. Random venue, but somehow oddly appropriate.

This has been my opinion since they came out. My gf loves them. I'm slowly becoming a convert though, as I hear "The Knife" in my head first thing when I wake up in the morning.

I agree with these guys. I think this is one of the most overrated bands of recent times. They were on orchestral overload on Yellow House and the songs were just fucking boring. Too much orchestration, not enough band interplay. There were a few decent tracks on that album but I could never sit through the whole thing without getting incredibly restless. I also saw them at Pitchfork last year, where they continued to be pretty damn boring.

However, I heard one of their new songs over at my friend's place and it was awesome. We listened to it like 7 times in a row.... not sure what it was called but it was obviously more pop, with some synth lines and drum beats prominently featured. It seemed much more like the work of a band, and not some sleepy asshole obsessed with cramming as many tasteful string tracks as possible into one song.

It's that second video in the first post of the thread, from Letterman. My friend had a studio version of it though... at least it sounded studio at the time. It's called "Two Weeks."

to me they are one of the best bands out there right now. much much MUCH better than fleet foxes the whole "boring" thing is stupid really orchestration can be wonderful and I think they walk a fine line and handle it nicely meaning they can do the pop song and the wonderful lush obtuse ornate song having a bit of both is what makes me love them so much tis true though their new tracks are getting even better I think their next album is going to slay and I'm already a huge fan of yellow house

Just because something has a lot of layers, doesn't make it interesting. Hell, there are a lot of noise bands that have a fuck ton of layers. Doesn't make them any less awful (although I like some noise).

I don't think layering is an essential part of Grizzly Bear's sound. I think the Friend EP made that pretty clear, and their new album will likely keep things tighter and more stripped down. I think it's partly a matter of confidence and songwriting ability on their part. On Horn of Plenty some kinda decent and some kinda weak songs were smothered in layers of sound as a sort of protection/support. Yellow House still had a lot of that, but the much better songs were able to emerge through the much clearer, better quality recording. Now it looks like they're ready to let the songs stand on their own. Hopefully.
