It's completely silly to get worked up about the rankings in a favorites list that a ton of people are contributing to, but seeing Green Day and Sunset Rubdown above Michael Jackson made my heart sink a little bit. Thankfully, The Doors barely broke the top 200.
I really don't think anyone (myself included) is honestly getting worked up. But you describe well my feelings about the list.

Green Day
SOMBies Say:
"so its teh year 2054 n teh clasic pop punk groups had to figure how tehey'd keep up to date n stil be in touch w/'teh kids.' (w/rock not liek pedophile shit...lol...n teahts not a stab @ michael, im just a litle bit pyscho, i get a litle out of control w/my reviews,,,lol j/k) now, teh offspring and otehrs fell off n shit but green days come back sucesfuly w/there fourth album 'dont wanna be an american itdiot.' basicly where tehy used to have songs which were realy good for looking @boobs and graduatning from 8th grade now 4 example theyve got shit liek teh first hit single from thias album 'dont wanna be anx amaerican idiot,' wich teh video may look liek theyre just getting 'slimed', sum u cants do that on television shit, but acutally its more about politics n shti, n as u may know tehre was an eelction this year so taht was a very 'hot topidc' they touched on. neway another important thig about 'dont wanna be an american sidiont is taht its an 'opera,' w/a shit load of long ass songs. but no tehre arent any weairdass fat ladies w/horns on tehre heads here, b/c this is a fucnikng rock opera and by kmaking it billy joel armbstrong, tre coll, and teh bass player have become teh new milenium (scuse me,,,wilennium...will2k lol)_ versin of bad ass opera rocklers liek teh who and andrew loid weber. basicly i would recomend this to any of my felow 'sound oppinions mesage board' budies who liek music b/c u will be rocked." - Jerkass

Should have stayed home and drank beer instead of going to work today.

Classic.
I feel great being personally responsible for Sunset Rubdown's inclusion on this list.

And he looked great for another 6 months after he died!Otm. I may have talked about it out here before, but when JB did Taste of Chicago about 10 years back, he pulled out a 12 or 13 minute long version of "It's a Man's Man's World." First, that was a pretty daring move for a free show. Second, it killed. Dude was pretty awesome performer till the day he died.
Very cool to see Prine show up. Makes me think there's hope for the SOMB afterall after seeing some of these other rankings.#220.
John Prine
Ugh. I saw these guys twice, and halfway through the second show I was wondering why I hadn't learned my lesson at the first. 3 hours of wankery. Jesus, 13 minutes of wandering and eventually finding your way back to a song is not great live music -- it's ADD on stage.Personally, for live music, I don't think it gets much better than the Dead.
Here's another name to consider when talking about legendary live shows: Bruce Springsteen. The thing about his shows? They never required drugs or stage props to be great.
paul, please stop the countdown so we can discuss Pink Floyd live some more... okay? thanks.

no drugs, just lots of cheap beer
not that there is anything wrong with that, but i see nothing wrong with the drugs and the stage props

Where can you find cheap beer at the overblown places he plays these days? That's part of why I don't go to see him anymore. The bigger reason is all the fist pumping fans that only own "Born in the USA."Here's another name to consider when talking about legendary live shows: Bruce Springsteen. The thing about his shows? That said, the shows are still pretty damn great. Hey, Maloney (if you're out there), remember when he blew the lights at Comiskey and ran around 'til he found a flashlight to shine on Clarence during his sax solo? Classic. And Bhickman thought it was a bad show. As much as I love the guy, he never had a clue when it came to music. [/justkiddingbhickieyouknowiloveyoumorethanasammiesbeefsammich;-)]
The thing about Sprngsteen is, on the one hand he and the band have rehearsed EVERYTHING, so when they play/perform, it's as tight as can be; on the other hand, this is all seemless to the audience -- you never know what to expect.

Swans
SOMBies Say:
"Swans - Helpless Child - 15:47
Of course, I have to list some Swans in here you know.
What do I like about this song? Everything. Typical Swans, it starts out with a beautiful swirl of music and gives way to vamps. But this is Swans when they get on their dark ambient groove thang. Yes, it is quite pretty. It soon gives way to Giras' wonderful croon. Depressing, but beautiful. Modern so-called "Goth" bands should learn from them." - Zero As A Limit
"Swans are fucking great, but I doubt that Jim and Greg are fans." - [b]Pavement Ist Rad/b]

Buzzcocks
SOMBies Say:
"I never thought I'd see the day when punk was co-opted by the Advertising world to such a large degree. AARP is using a Buzzcocks song for their commercials, although many aging baby boomers were once punks back in the day, I would surmise. Well, at least they didn't use Orgasm Addict" - Moo & Oink
"still, substance by new order and singles going steady by the buzzcocks are perhaps the finest single-artist compilations i know." - no magnets

Springsteen was another great live act, no doubt.
