See. Now that is logical, and I can respect that Deej. And, I will now refrain. I have attempted to befriend SG in cyberworld on several occasions and went out of my way to be nice towards her. I can do no more.

Don't mean to bust your balls...but interesting that you would look past Bono's ego enough to see what's most important...but you won't do the same for a woman who has moved mountains to do her part to change the world...I'm talking about Oprah, of course.
Bono is a self-righteous dick and his music is terrible.
Yeah, what a dick. Always trying to help fund money to fight AIDS and encouraging investments in third-world nations. Fucking asshole Bono. It's about time some halfway-famous singer put him in his place. Because showing up at some ceremony out of obligation and then saying "Thanks for funding my album" - that doesn't come across as someone who's self-serving at all.
Seriously, I know the guy's super-famous and rich and he can afford to give charities money. But he doesn't have to. Yeah, he's a rock star and he wears sunglasses and U2 isn't the freshest band around anymore. But I don't see many celebrities doing as much as he does. Guy uses his clout for something good. Eminem and Orlando Bloom aren't starting up organizations like EDUN or DATA. Most celebs are content to put in an appearance and the occasional donation. And that's fine - hey, we all have busy lives. But Bono actually attempts to do something about these global problems and the guy is well-aware of all the shit he takes for it.. yet he's still willing to put his name and whatever cred he has on the line.
I think we just solved the "who is Jigga?" question.
And PT, if someone had posted "Oprah is a dick and her show is terrible", I would've happily archived a similarly well-written response of yours.
And Sausage, Undo is often as archive-errant as deej.

So is it that the response is "well written", or are you saying that you can put aside her big ego and endorse Oprah? Cuz that would be news to me.

Well, I archived it because it was a strident and unpopular opinion well-stated, and it was a respectful answer to a casually dismissive post.
The primary difference for me between Bono and Oprah, though, is that Bono became popular (and insanely rich) through his music and then got into philanthropy, which I don't really think was a ploy to sell more albums. Whereas I feel that Oprah became popular from the self-aggrandizing way she's marketed her philanthropy, to the point where I feel her philanthropy is the loss leader marketing ploy through which she's created the cult/brand of Oprah in order to get real paid.

There's probably some truth to that. Still, does it make her philanthropy any less important?

I dunno PT. Oprah was a successful actress and talk show host. She didn't become successful because of her philanthropy. She has an appeal. Maybe her down home persona is mostly put on, and maybe she does philanthropy partly as a means to making herself more popular, but seriously, why should we judge her based on why she does good things? Do each of us always do the right thing, for the right reasons? And I'm not sure that's a fair distinguishing point from Bono. Who's to say that after he gained fame thru his music, Bono doesn't see his philanthropy as helping his career, just as Oprah supposedly does.

I don't really care about this. I'm just surprised PT caved so easily to this flimsy point.
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis 8.5/10
Buddy & Julie Miller - Written in Chalk wow, first listen, but great great record! 9.3/10
Justin Townes Earle - Midnight at the Moviessurprisingly great, never picked up his past releases, but this one's knocking my socks off right away, 8.7/10
M. Ward - Hold Time 8.0/10
Neko Case -Middle Cyclone her best I've heard is my initial impression, but too soon to rate, haven't had a really good listen yet 7.8/10

First of all, it's just an opinion of mine about Oprah's motivations. I certainly didn't make any definitive point that EPT could be accused of "caving" to, you rabble-rousing bastard.

and Elc,...I think I'm just tired of making my pro-Oprah arguments to a crowd that clearly has no interest in perceiving her in any different way.
