I like Jay Pierce and Spiritualized. My favorite album is let it come down. I don't want to have a fuckfest and talk about his older band, you know. If you must talk about Spiritualized older albums. But please talk about A&E. I wanna pick this record up. Someone here must like Spiritualized. The thing with Leno and then Letterman was fucking funny. I read about all the history regarding A&E, I support this guy through thick and thin. Tell me about the new album...Tell me little details about the songs

Pretty good album. I like "Sweet Talk" and "Borrowed Your Gun" a lot. That's all I got.

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

I just listened to this two or three albums ago. Some quality tracks, but I'm still waiting for it to really click in. Although yeah, Sweet Talk is great. and the song after is pretty good too- nice and depressing first verse there. Seeing them live a week from Monday, I'm hoping seeing the songs live will help me appreciate the album a bit more, but as of right now it's still holding up somewhere in the top 10 of '08.

something like my...9th favorite record of the year. No, it is not any kind of sonic grounbreaking masterpiece. It's just a whole bunch of classic Spaceman songs, excellently performed. Wonderful record, his best since Ladies and Gents. The only thing that really bugs me is that "You Lie You Cheat," which would arguably be my favorite song on the record otherwise, fades out! What a terrible way to end that song. Seriously, it breaks into this monster final chorus with guitars fucking themselves to shit and then it's just... NO WAIT, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?! Should have at least done it like the Letterman performance. Or something.

Yeah, I like this a hell of a lot. Doesn't seem to drag as much as their last few albums have for me. "Sitting on Fire" and "Baby I'm Just a Fool" are the two standouts for me, but there really aren't any bad songs on this album. Most likely top 10 (and at least top 20) album of the year for me.

Yeah, wait.. that's a pretty great song too. I don't really mind the fadeout too much-- although I think for that song, it may have worked better if it would have built up and cut off mid chorus(in the vein of "Untitled" by D'angelo)

I don't know a fuckin thing about this band but I love this album. Smokin mass weed, it's all acoustic and lo-fi with strings and shit then it's all crazy, loud psychedelic rock.

as a result of which, those 2 records will shift down to become your 3rd & 4th favourite Spiritualised albums, I bet

This is a great record. Sweet Talk is really a glorious opener. And yeah, Sitting on Fire is tremendous. Anyone else really bothered by Death Take Your Fiddle? I dig the song, but that sound affect which sounds like labored breathing through a tube freaks me out. I literally cannot listen to it on headphones, it feels like I am suffocating. I skip it every time. Great record, one of the more "I did not see that one coming," records of the year. I love his absolutely wrecked voice on this record.

Yeah, that's another of this record's strong points. He sounds like latter-day Dylan on a few tracks, almost. It's great.

i don't like a & e that much. i dunno, it's not rocking enough to compete with his earlier stuff but it's also not pretty enough to top ladies & gentlemen.. it just treads this middle ground that i don't find that interesting.

Pierce was near death in the hospital for quite some time before getting around to this album, hooked up to the respirator that creeps you out so much. I'd say mission accomplished, eh? And I agree about his voice on the album - he's never been a strong singer, per se. Great record.
