R/S - Just a damn spectacular band.
I searched for threads about them, and came up with only one, started by Kessler over a year ago, and replied to by nobody. This is a shame.
I think more people should get the word out, so that Cartwright and company can sell a lot of albums which will give them money and encouragement with which to make more albums. Then, we can all reap the benefits of said albums.

Peace, I'm out.

I've only heard Time Bomb High School and Too Much Guitar, but the latter is one of my favorite records of this decade.

Can you upload Too Much Guitar please? I only have Time Bomb HS and a shit load of other Greg Cartwright material, and haven't been able to find TMG.
Yeah well, that's just, ya know, like, your opinion, man.

Agree with all of this. It's weird how Greg first) kind of took over the Oblivians at the end there, and second) made or had a large hand in a half dozen albums (Greg & the Tip-Tops, last two Compulsive Gamblers, Reigning Sound's first one, first couple Deadly Snakes) in about two years, put out a couple more in the next year or two, and now it's been, what, 4 years, and all we've heard is that pretty okay Mary Weiss record?

If anyone hasn't already read it a dozen times, and memorized it, the definitive Greg C. inter/over view is here: http://www.reglarwig...gningSound.html
Thanks, I am quite proud of it.

PS: the reason no one responded to Kessler's thread is that he's kind of a dipstick. There is substantial RS discussion in the Jay Reatard thread.

I haven't heard the Mary Weiss album aside from a track or two. And I also know that she rejected 'Unicorn Rainbow Odyssey' on the grounds that it was "too depressing" for her liking.

Aside from that, I know very little about the disc. Is it worth checking out?

if you like unicorns and puppets, fine, stay away, but if you like the rock, check these guys out.

Nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Is it worth checking out?

I never wanted to listen to it after hearing it like three times, but that was mostly due to my not liking her voice, and not HATING it, so maybe!

Gotcha. I was unaware on both counts. Also, great article THF. I had never seen it.
As far as the Mary Weiss album, I'm also sorta hot/cold on it. I can upload it when I get off work later for anybody curious.

So, what's the word on a new album? I was pretty disappointed with that Mary Weiss thing (her voice simply ruined many great songs, including the un-ruinable Stop and Think it Over). I've yet to hear a Greg Cartwright project, other than that one, that I don't love. I've been tracking down as many records as I can find, which is quite daunting. Why is this man not extremely famous? I've played all sorts of his records for all sorts of people, and everybody loves him. People usually don't like the music I listen to.

EDIT: And if anybody wants a particular album or song or whatever from the Oblivians, Compulsive Gamblers, Deadly Snakes, Reigning Sound, Greg Oblivian and the Tip Tops, then lemme know. I did a "best-of" compilation of his stuff before. I'll go look for that. It might still be in my MediaFire account. Yep, it is:

What's all that noise about "Unicorn Rainbow Odyssey"? Would hate to think that somebody is suggesting that it is possibly not a fantastic song. I fucking love the Oblivians.

Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?

Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

Thanks Fiat. Love hearing other people's comps. ESPECIALLY jazzed to see that you threw some Greg and the Tip Tops is in there, since I'm totally unfamiliar with them.

Here's the Mary Weiss collab if anybody's interested, though if you can find any other links on this thread that you haven't heard yet, I'd prolly start there.

Oh, and dead on. That is exactly the way I feel about stop and think it over

I have the LP and 7". I think that's all they put out (it was pretty much just Greg and his girlfriend in the band). "Watching My Baby Get Ready" is probably my favourite song from the LP. Don't know why it isn't on the comp. The whole album is really sappy and soft. Great songwriting as usual.

I love Greg Cartwright more than is natural. Especially his stuff with Reigning Sound. There's something about his voice and songs and whatever the fuck other magical juju stuff he's doing that tears a hole right through me. Unbelievably great stuff. In the Red homepage says new album is 'Coming Soon' but it's said that for a while. I was hoping for this year, but maybe it'll be early 2009. EDIT: The version of "Bad Man" on the Tip Tops album is great, but it's "Beside You" that slays me.
