Our primary influences are The Cure, The Catherine Wheel, The Smiths, Placebo, etc.
Looking for someone who's into those bands, as well as Mogwai, M83, Sigur Ros - ambient stuff, noisy stuff, etc.
We've been a three piece thus far with a pretty big reverbish stereo guitar sound on my part.
Should you be interested, or know someone who is, please send me a message or direct them to our website: theatlanticdivide.com.
General requirements: Good gear, great creativity, strong desire to put all you can into playing music and help build this band. Good haircut, a fondness for Jackass, Viva La Bam, Seinfeld, good beer and Makers Mark, Lord of the Rings. NO REPUBLICANS, and we mean that will all sincerity. It has nothing to do with our music, just personal preference.

Additionally, we are also looking for a new drummer. Same as above applies.

why are you looking for a new drummer? where's fred going?
Fred's nonstop wearing of black t-shirts was too much. He also uncovered my masterplan for turning the band into a Carpenters cover band. He was having none of that.
But if you happen to look on myspace for a band called With A Gun you can probably find him there.
They are certainly not Carpenters-ish.

Ooo, are you going to do "Calling Occupants of Interstellar Craft"?Fred's nonstop wearing of black t-shirts was too much. He also uncovered my masterplan for turning the band into a Carpenters cover band. He was having none of that.

Should have stayed home and drank beer instead of going to work today.

I'm going to see my son Tonight, I'll see if he's interested in taking over the throne for you. Are you guys Northside, southside, suburbs?
Haha. Is that a Carpenters song? The title is great.
Anyhow, one of us lives near Wicker Park and I'm up on the northside in Lakeview.
I've had no serious inqueries a la Craigslist after receiving 8 replies to a drummer ad that really spelled out what we want. Kind of frustrating...I'm not saying we're some great band that people would bend over backwards to play drums with - that's not what I was expecting. I guess I've basically realized that people who look for new band members on Craigslist and more so those who are looking for bands to join are so bombarded by the whole thing that they could never make a decision on who to do what with.
I think a drummer will be far easier to find than the keyboard person we'd like to find. Bottom line is, it's always a setback to lose any band member, especially at a time when everyone else (which is two people in our case) is really ready to crank up the effort. This music stuff...you're never going to get anything out of it unless you're putting in at least twice the effort.

Did you try Chicagogigs.com? We got our bassist, keyboardist and new lead guitar player from there.

Good luck with your search...finding people can be tough. It took us 18 months to find our lead guitar player. However it took us only 2 months to find a bassist and keyboardist back in the summer of '04.

It's probably their oddest cover, the song's from a Canadian Space/Prog Rock act.Haha. Is that a Carpenters song? The title is great.

How is the search going?
We've found a drummer, which in some ways is more important because we can simply get back to practicing!
Craigslist has only proven to be as beneficial as...well...
Let's just put it this way: I know people find people that way sometimes, but it's just too littered with hacks and indecision and ego. People spend so much time fielding emails from people and sending ones on their own that they'll never decide what they want to do.
Luckily, the drummer we found is someone we know. I still have not checked out chicagogigs.com like you suggested, but maybe I'll give it a try.
Also - planning to catch your band at Sylvies for sure. What day is it again?

We can do all that without a keyboard player, but still hoping to find one soon.

Cool, thanks! It's next Saturday, March 4. Lindbergh at 10, us at 11 and Dundrearies at mid. All three bands have a Brit-rock sound and vibe which should make for a great night.
