I have to join the dissent here.. One of These Nights is a summer song, and a damn fine one at that.

Yep...it has always reminded me of a balmy oceanside drive at dusk.
And it's a great fucking song, their best in my opinion.

"full moon", "wicked winds" = fall/Halloween imagery
Every Sunday morning I wake up
I see you by your dresser doing your make-up
Fluttering a Chinese fan in a Knoxville fashion
All last night you tossed and turned
Your body was hotter than the night Richmond burned
You say you had a bad nightmare about tractor trailers crashing
- The Felice Brothers

It is.

Here's some more outstanding fall/winter picks:

Islands - King Crimson

Rake - Townes Van Zandt

Time in a Bottle - Jim Croce

It's All The Same - James Gang

Moonlight Mile - Stones

No Quarter - Zep

oh man, thanks for posting that... i've never seen the video for that song. i am pulling all of my Low records off the shelf immediately and will begin listening to them again tomorrow.

Autumn is totally for the slowcore set. also going to listen to Rex, Codeine, Idaho, and maybe sprinkle in some Dirty Three, Pullman, and Directions In Music for balance.

Shocked no one's mentioned these guys yet: The Radio Dept. and Cocteau Twins - the latter especially - have always been go-to cold weather bands for me also.

This might be totally obvious, but for the last couple falls I've made sure to keep Funeral on my iPod, so it is ready for the first day that I'm walking around the city and it snows.

Yeah, I listened to Post-War a whole bunch last winter. Made for some good listening.

Also, In A Priest Driven Ambulance by the Lips was great for driving in really shitty weather last year. One morning I had to get up at 6AM for work in 10 degree weather and horrible road conditions. "Take Meta Mars" sounded really awesome on that day, for whatever reason.

That does sound promising--I'll have to give that a spin.

But, having just moved back to the Midwest from Houston, I'm both dreading and looking forward to when it gets really fucking cold this January. And then it's going to be black metal time, kids. Frost, Battles in the North, etc.

The Summer does not reduce the chances of a full moon or wicked winds..

(Plus the general consensus takes my side - looks like I'm not the one that's high).
Yeah well, that's just, ya know, like, your opinion, man.

Wasn't there just a fall thread two days ago? I'd imagine that the new TVOTR would be killer during the winter, but the best I can do is turn the air conditioning way up and see if it comes close. Otherwise my picks normally are: Josh Ritter - The Animal Years Arcade Fire - Funeral (the only time of year that I still listen to it) Built to Spill - Keep it Like a Secret (yes, I know, it's a bright pop album, but I got it one year for Xmas, and now I associate it with cold weather)
