I mean, wow.

A big huge house music gig (something that is very rare in Vegas).

I got to run lights.

4000 people.

$1000.

Yet the miscommunications between the promoters & the equipment rental company were so incredibly twisted, I found myself walking around during the installation screaming "motherfucker" more times than I can count. The last straw: I get ony 30 minutes to program the lighting in order to make the visuals soar, and I needed 4 hours minimum. Why? 'Cuz too many chiefs, not enough indians (as they say). The rig kept changing design & equipment all the way up to the last hour. 30 min after doors opening, and the bloody rental co. is still running cables troubleshooting sound & lighting problems.

I simply gave up & handed the board to the rental co's tech & stormed out of the booth. I don't care that I lost all that money & prestige. Without the proper time to set up my show it's just an unpleasant experience to operate. So fuck it. I told both the promoters & the rental co that I'm unhappy & they can keep my salary cuz I was so distressed I couldn't give them my best work. At least they comped my friends & we got loaded for free - and I got the night off. Which was actually something I probably needed in the first place. So it all worked out in the end.

Some things are more important than money.

And this is the first time in my entire career that I've flat-out walked out of a job in a fury. I'm almost shocked. B)

Good for you. Sometimes a situation is just unworkable.

You will not regret this. If, for any reason you do, it won't be for long. Life is too short - bullshit should be kept to a minimum at all times. It's thier fault. Fuck them. "Hey, I don't work with amatuers"

Sounds like you were being set up for failure, no matter how hard you would've worked on it. A day off is worth alot.

So... after a full night's sleep, I can honestly say that I have zero regrets about last night's debacle. Totally relaxed, sipping my coffee, and enjoying a day of goofin' off on the interweb. Lovely. You know, I've said it before & I'll say it again: Never Underestimate the Value of a Well-Timed Freakout. ;)
