A lot of retailers count on the day after Thanksgiving for Christmas sales, with many of them opening their doors as early as 4AM. Are you one of those people who stood in line during the wee hours of the morning to reap the benefits of the Day-after-Thanksgiving sales? If so, describe your experience

NEW YORK - Police say a Wal-Mart worker has died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers shortly after the Long Island store opened today.

Nassau County police say the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened.

Girlfriend and I went out and bought a few things at the mall, BB&B, Pier 1 and Best Buy this morning/afternoon. Bought a 37" Samsung LCD television, new Kenmore refrigerator, shower curtains, napkin rings, some wine goblets, a vase, new iPod nano, hard drive enclosure, clothes, shoes, perfume, water pitcher. Really most of this stuff was for me/us/her. Except the nano and wine goblets.

Ironically, this occurred right after Wal-Mart announced they had exclusive right to a new The Who DVD.

Fuck no. I can't stand swarms of people and long lines. Even if you offered me a free 50" plasma for standing in line, I'd stay home and sleep in.

I'd probably stand in line for that.
Few beings have ever been so impregnated, pierced to the core, by the conviction of the absolute futility of human aspiration. The universe is nothing but a furtive arrangement of elementary particles. A figure in transition toward chaos. That is what will finally prevail. The human race will disappear. Other races in turn will appear and disappear. And human actions are as free and as stripped of meaning as the unfettered movements of the elementary particles. Good, evil, morality, sentiments? Pure ‘Victorian fictions.’ All that exists is egotism. Cold, intact, and radiant.

Got a Samsung blu-ray player w/ the television at a great price. So I feel I really scored on that purchase. Usually I do my X-mas shopping spread out over November/December. I don't have many people to buy for. This year we decided to go driving around. Traffic was not bad, mall was bustling with people but not so many that you couldn't move about easily. Other stores were more or less the same, lots of shoppers though not what I would consider "crowded".

Obviously there's a lot of people who'd stand in line for that. Fuck, they stand in line for an extra couple percent off. I just really, really hate lines and crowds. If I want a 50" plasma, I'll just buy it. More power to those who can stomach the lines and take advantage of the savings.

Fuck the crowds. We went shopping earlier this week and bought our first HDTV, a 42 inch Panasonic plasma. Pretty cool. Kinda hooked on TV now.

i just went to the mall this afternoon quickly with my parents to get me a nice new G1 phone. it was actually pretty tame out there around 4 or so. my sister was out at 4 am with her friend and didn't get back until about 11 or so. she said it wasn't half as bad as its been in years past, but was still congested.

Yes. I really would rather be porked in the ass by Mandingo than put up with humanity in those numbers. Hell, I'm loath to go to the 7-11 round the corner to get beer.

It's not so much that, although that is horrid it's the concept of having a day before where people are with their families for the day on the Thursday and they "can't stay up too late" because they need to get up and go fucking shopping for discounted shit they don't need, at 4am. We have the same thing here on Boxing Day, sales for fucking clothes and furniture. What the fuck.

I was driving home from Thanksgiving last night west on I-88 and ran into about 5 or 6 miles of backed up traffic starting at the exit for route 59. From there it was slower than walking pace, and there was no way free of it for 2 hours until I reached the next exit, Farnsworth Road at the outlet mall. Thousands upon thousands of cars competing/waiting for a few hundred spaces. With no way out the traffic had backed up through the parking lot, through the driveway, back through Farnsworth Road and back onto I-88, and back and back it went, with everyone wanting to merge right to go to the mall, blocking all 3 lanes.

It was infuriating to be trapped in but also sort of hilarious. All the more when you start thinking about how getting 20% off at the Nike store or Ralph Loren was somehow supposed to be related to the birth of the Son of God Himself more than 2000 years ago. I was just sitting in my car singing along to Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain as loud as I could to keep myself from losing my temper. By the time I got home it was 2:30 am.

Yes, the foul groping after poorly-made horseshit made by outsourced labor is prima facie. No question. But then *add* smelly fuckers to the equation. Ugh.

The fact that people died today at the hands of crazed shoppers is absolutely disgusting to me. It's not bad enough that the 34-year old guy in NY was working at Wal-Mart and was then killed after opening the doors for these assholes, but he was only a temp employee. What a sad end to this person's life.
