Hey Paul I forgot to add a band to my list. Mind if I just add it to the bottom? Thx. 27. Colour Haze - All I totally forgot about this record. Not cool to have it off the list. It would have had a much higher placing on my list, but it's probably way easier if I just add to the bottom.

After a really slow first half, 2008 ended up being a pretty good year, especially for discovering new groups.

Disappointed my #1 won't come anywhere near the SOMB 100, though that may not be a bad thing, as each and every one of you clearly have terrible taste in music ;)

Final list. I did a garbage job of hunting down music this year, very little effort put into it, and I think that's why this year feels so lackluster especially compared to last year. You get out what you put in. Anyway, love all these, especially the top 4: 1. David Byrne & Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today 2. TV On the Radio - Dear Science 3. Hot Chip - Made in the Dark 4. Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreaks 5. Randy Newman - Harps and Angels 6. Wavves - Wavves 7. She & Him - Volume One 8. Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple 9. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig Lazarus Dig 10. Silver Jews - Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea 11. The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride 12. Mark Ronson Presents Rhymefest - Man in the Mirror 13. The Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark 14. Mates of State - Re-Arrange Us 15. Jakob Dylan - Seeing Things 16. Girl Talk - Feed the Animals 17. Blitzen Trapper - Furr 18. M83 - Saturdays = Youth 19. Women - Women

Portishead’s history dates back to Roman times. Its name derives from the ‘port at the head of the river’, having been called Portshead and Portschute at times in its history and Portesheve in the Domesday Book, and was locally known as Posset

That's nothing if not interesting.

How's it pronounced? Always said, "portis head", but thinking now that it might be more like "port-a-shed."
make it three yards, motherfucker, and we'll have an automobile race

I was better at keeping up in 2007, and then I forgot to keep up and put out a list. I remembered to list this year (just in time), but I don't feel the crop was as good this year as last. I really need to check this out. I heard the song (might have been a remix) with Jay-Z and I loved it, just never got around to listening to anything else.

Man, that Jay-Z remix is far and away the worst thing on the album, and even then it's not too bad...
