"After much thought into this, I have finally come to a conclusion as to why the ‘Meet the Spartans’ commercial is so funny:

It is an interesting choice to have Sanjaya sing ‘I’m not gay,’ as his final words on earth. As he is plummeting into a seemingly bottomless pit, he does not say ‘dear god no,’ ‘I love you mom,’ or even simply ‘argh.’ He instead takes the moment to reaffirm to the world, in spite of their doubts, that he is not a homosexual. Not only that, but he continues to sing, despite falling to his certain death. The distinct lack of plausibility of this situation is what produces giggles from our mouth. It is the antithesis to the belief that ‘it’s funny because it is true.’

Seeing this Friday. Very much looking forward to it.
Few beings have ever been so impregnated, pierced to the core, by the conviction of the absolute futility of human aspiration. The universe is nothing but a furtive arrangement of elementary particles. A figure in transition toward chaos. That is what will finally prevail. The human race will disappear. Other races in turn will appear and disappear. And human actions are as free and as stripped of meaning as the unfettered movements of the elementary particles. Good, evil, morality, sentiments? Pure ‘Victorian fictions.’ All that exists is egotism. Cold, intact, and radiant.

I saw this last week - was very depressed and looking for a "feel good". I liked it alot. Parts of it were pretty messy, lots of flashing back and forward, but I thought it was pretty original. I welled up at the end.

Saw this film also at Landmark on opening day , first show(11a.m.ish) and it was packed. Didn't know or read any hype and only went because my 15 year old is a big Danny Boyle fan. Loved it, should be in my Top Ten.

Haven't gotten a chance yet. It's still not playing anywhere closer than HP. Basically, I saw MILK instead last weekend. Looks like it's not playing this weekend either. We'll see.

Read a quick article just the other day...the scriptwriter and Danny Boyle contacted each other to make sure that the recent events in Mumbai might cause concern about the movie's overall reception. They decided not to make any changes...the film has gotten positive acclaim from persons native to the area.

Yeah, was at the Landmark on Saturday, caught an afternoon show. The theatre was pretty full. I don't like the seats there, they pitch my head foreward and it makes my neck sore.....

I thought Slumdog Miiilionaire was really good. Very intense at times, but with enough humor to cool it down when it needed it. The cinematography was especially excellent. It was a bit more conventional and heavy-handed as far as the good vs. evil plot points than I expected, but still, it moved me quite a bit. This figures to be well up in my EOY movie list.

We went to the 4:40 show on Thursday evening at Landmark Century, so the theater wasn't particularly crowded.

Pretty good movie. Condensing all those bits of Indian history and culture into the film was very well done, and the reverse narrative made the story a lot more interesting than it would have been otherwise. Good music and the colors throughout were great to watch.
Spoiler
Like Sunshine and 28 Days Later, visually arresting film with some gripping action that doesn't really know what to do with its third act.

In the future there is only drink and birds.

Planning on seeing this tomorrow. Is this so "uplifting" that it comes off cheesy? Or is it pretty enjoyable overall?

i dont think it comes off cheesy. it really is the story of a boy and the life he lives against all odds.
