Damo Suzuki: So, um, yeah. Getting older isn't as bad as it sounds. Better than being young & poor (DjDrake) or young & slutty (SG) or young, poor and slutty (Paves); am I right?
Alright, my friends. It's time for another solid little rock jam

We voted for this stupid Black Kids song last year.

I asked Paul about this. I guess we voted for the EP last year. Ironically, I didn't vote for the EP last year, but had "I'm Not Gonna Teach..." in my top ten. Catchy song, and I prefer the LP version to the EP version.

Miley Cyrus > Black Kids
yes
There's a high bar.
Not Gonna Teach You is about all I can get into by Black Kids, and yeah, what the fuck, it placed last year.

Radiohead - House Of Cards

Of course I'm happy to see this. Main reason I listen to In Rainbows
the sample is really the only important thing about SLU. If the lyrics were better, that probably would've been nice, but who cares really.
So true. What a really wasted opportunity. Should have been one of the all time greatest collabs considering the talent on board. LL Cool J's "1, 2, 3, 4" kills this. Even the version with Master P.
I'm very thrilled with "Forever" showing up as well.

New recording this year and the EP last year wasn't the "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend... - EP."

Maybe in 2009 a third poll for EP's?what I don't get is why there isn't more EP's in people's votes. I can claim to have heard 30 or more EPs this year, and in most cases EP > Single.
With the way things are,..a lot of new bands release digital EPs..it's a good way to get their music out there, and not just 1 or 2 songs.
I think most people just think in terms of songs.
I would go for this. It's not that simple to weigh a single really good song, vs an EP that has 1 or 2 good songs, and some filler.

P4K loved that EP too, despite their later negative review of the full-length. In defense of the people who voted for that Black Kids EP last year (and I was one of them), the EP just felt like 15 minutes of charming, innocuous pop singles. Had it come out earlier in the year, I'm sure it would have worn off its charm by the time we got the EOY lists but it came out around September/October or so. Dealing with this band over the course of an entire 40-minute album - that was a different story, even though the album is nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be. They're just an easy target and a band that's not very good that got a bucket full of hype way too early.

Thanks Paul, surprised the list is posted so soon, great job. Not surprised the list has sucked so far. And will continue to.
You are awesome, in that you are always wrong.

House of Cards has a terrific opening. Much like Reckoner and Nude, House of Cards starts off with a terrific line that everyone learns to love.
the sample is really the only important thing about SLU. If the lyrics were better, that probably would've been nice, but who cares really.

I liked Jay-Z's verse on S.L.U. but that was about it. Lil' Wayne and Kanye using the vocoder have never appealed to me and T.I.'s verse is super weak. Sick beat though.
I'm dreading about 4 more Radiohead singles and just as many Weezer singles.
I hope Reckoner places really high. Then what else? Nude, most likely and Weird Fishes?
And yes, I think Weezer will be on here many times.
